Registered Nurse Labor and Delivery

Description: COVID vaccine is required. Unit consists of 11 labor and delivery beds and 7 antepartum/high-risk beds. There are 2 OR suites and 3 triage beds. There are 24 postpartum beds. The unit manages approximately 4000 births per year. The facility aims to follow AWHONN guidelines for nurse-to-patient ratios. Common diagnoses include preeclampsia (hypertensive disorders), gestational and insulin-dependent diabetes, high BMI, multiples, preterm labor, advanced maternal age, and substance abuse disorders. RNs are required to titrate drips, including Pitocin and Insulin. Charge nurses are present on the unit. CNA and surgical tech support is available. An OB hospitalist is on-site 24/7. A neonatal or NICU advanced practice provider is available 24/7. Respiratory therapy equipment, including vents, CPAP, and BiPAP, is available for NICU. There is no telemetry on this unit, but RNs are responsible for reading strips. The electronic fetal monitoring system in use is Centricity Perinatal. Weekend and holiday requirements are in place. There is a call or standby requirement. Floating within the unit may be necessary. Scrub color and dress code follow hospital standards. Unit-specific orientation is provided. The hospital can cancel up to 4 shifts during a 13-week assignment. The charting system used by the unit is EPIC.
