Security Investigator

The Security Investigator is responsible for conducting comprehensive investigations into incidents that impact the safety, security, and integrity of Baystate Health's patients, staff, visitors, and property. This includes investigations involving workplace violence, patient or visitor misconduct, employee misconduct, sexual assault/abuse allegations, theft, property loss, fraud, vandalism, and other security or safety-related incidents. The Investigator works collaboratively with hospital administration, Human Resources, Risk Management, Compliance, and local law enforcement to ensure that investigations are thorough, consistent, and aligned with system policies, Joint Commission standards, and applicable laws and regulations.

Job Requirements:

  • Conduct timely, detailed, and objective investigations into incidents involving threats, violence, theft, and other security or safety concerns across all Baystate Health entities.
  • Interview witnesses, victims, and involved parties while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Collect, document, and preserve evidence (e.g., video footage, electronic access logs, written statements, photographs, and physical evidence).
  • Prepare comprehensive investigative reports for leadership review and potential legal or disciplinary action.
  • Collaborate with HR, Compliance, Risk Management, and law enforcement agencies as appropriate.
  • Acts as a liaison with law enforcement agencies, prosecutors and courts; briefs officers in preparation for court appearances.
  • Maintain case management records and track investigation outcomes for trend analysis and program improvement.
  • Support the Workplace Violence Prevention Program by investigating reports of aggression, threats, domestic violence, or assaultive behavior.
  • Facilitates and supports the Threat Assessment Team in internal threat assessments and protective intelligence evaluations involving employees, patients, or visitors.
  • Participates in the BH Controlled Substance Diversion Prevention Program.
  • Review and analyze incident data to identify patterns or high-risk areas and recommend mitigation strategies.
  • Provide testimony in hearings or court proceedings as required.
  • Support training and education programs related to investigation, report writing, and evidence handling for Public Safety Officers and Supervisors.
  • Maintain high ethical standards, confidentiality, and adherence to privacy and security regulations (HIPAA, CMS, etc.).

Skills/Competencies:

  • Strong knowledge of investigative techniques, interviewing methods, and evidence handling procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to write clear, factual, and comprehensive investigative reports.
  • Working knowledge of Joint Commission standards, OSHA guidelines, and IAHSS Guidelines.
  • Familiarity with video management systems, access control data, and case management software.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.
  • Skilled in interviewing, conflict resolution, and de-escalation.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple cases concurrently.
  • Strong collaboration skills to effectively interact with leaders, staff, and law enforcement partners.
  • High ethical standards and commitment to organizational integrity.

Working Conditions

Work performed in both administrative and clinical settings across multiple hospitals and outpatient facilities. May require travel and irregular hours to conduct investigations or respond to incidents. Occasional exposure to sensitive or distressing circumstances requiring professionalism and composure.

Required Education:

Bachelor's Degree in criminal justice, Security Management, or related field.

Required Experience:

Minimum of 5 years of experience in law enforcement, healthcare security, or investigative work.

Preferred Experience:

Experience in healthcare or corporate investigations.

Training in threat assessment and workplace violence investigations.

Certification:

Preferred: International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (CHPA), Certified Investigator (IACP-LEPS), or similar

Required: Valid driver's license and ability to travel to multiple facilities

Compensation

Note: The compensation range(s) in the table below represent the base salaries for all positions at a given grade across the health system. Typically, a new hire can expect a starting salary somewhere in the lower part of the range. Actual salaries may vary by position and will be determined based on the candidate's relevant experience. No employee will be paid below the minimum of the range. Pay ranges are listed as hourly for non-exempt employees and based on assumed full time commitment for exempt employees.

$83,054.00 - $95,472.00 - $112,923.00
