Cost Accountant

Overview Position Title: Cost Accountant - Plant Reports To: Controller Location: Spartanburg, SC Join our innovative manufacturing team where precision and quality come together to drive industry-leading production and continuous improvement. Motus is revolutionizing the manufacturing industry and seeking a passionate, forward-thinking Cost Accountant to help us make an impact. Responsibilities Plant Accounting & Close Activities Lead and assist with month-end and weekly close tasks, including journal entries, accruals, and variance analysis. Prepare and analyze plant financial reporting packages for Corporate and local management. Perform monthly subledger-to-GL reconciliations, including inventory, fixed assets, AR, AP, and intercompany accounts. Prepare weekly and monthly bank reconciliations. Costing, Inventory & Profitability Manage standard cost updates, cost rolls, and variance analysis (PPV, labor, overhead, absorption, etc.). Conduct profitability analyses by customer, program, and product line versus budget and forecast. Lead and coordinate the Annual Physical Inventory and cycle count program; ensure timely reconciliation and follow-through on adjustments. Perform BOM and process routing audits to ensure data accuracy. Support continuous improvement of inventory accuracy and shop-floor controls. Budgeting, Forecasting & Financial Planning Support the Annual Budget and Midyear Forecast cycles for plant operations. Track weekly results versus budget and forecast, highlighting opportunities and risks. Track and reconcile Capital Expenditure budgets and fixed asset activity. Internal Controls, Compliance & Audit Support annual audit requirements (internal, external, interim, and year-end). Perform internal control activities, including participating in shop-floor audits. Ensure compliance with SOX or other applicable control frameworks. Assist in developing and deploying finance-related policies and procedures plant-wide. Cross-Functional & Intercompany Collaboration Coordinate with Operations, Supply Chain, Purchasing, Engineering, and Corporate Finance to process customer, supplier, and intercompany transactions. Perform global intercompany accounting and reconciliation. Assist in various special projects, financial analysis requests, and process improvement initiatives. Other duties related to close, inventory, and financial analysis as assigned. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or closely related field. 3–5 years of relevant accounting or cost accounting experience preferred. Strong understanding of manufacturing cost accounting, variance analysis, and inventory management. Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word; advanced Excel skills a plus. Experience with PLEX, SAP, Oracle, or other ERP systems required. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Highly organized with excellent time-management skills and the ability to prioritize effectively. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail. Able to work independently, collaboratively, and under tight deadlines. Flexible, adaptable, and capable of taking on new or challenging tasks with limited guidance. Comfortable working with team members at all levels of the organization.
