Water Wastewater Hydraulic Lead Project Engineer

This is not a conventional engineering role. This individual will play a key role in advancing how we apply modeling, data, and emerging technologies—including AI—to solve complex infrastructure challenges. You will work alongside industry leaders with decades of experience in steady-state, extended period, and transient hydraulic modeling; water quality modeling; and the design of pumping systems, surge mitigation, conveyance, and treatment infrastructure. More importantly, you will be expected to build on that foundation—challenging norms, advancing methodologies, and helping define what comes next. What You'll Work On Develop, calibrate, and apply steady-state, extended period, and transient hydraulic models, as well as water quality models Use advanced modeling to evaluate system performance, optimize infrastructure, and support long-term planning Lead and contribute to master planning efforts and system evaluations Apply data-driven approaches and explore emerging technologies (e.g., automation, AI, advanced analytics) to improve modeling workflows and decision-making Help define and implement next-generation modeling practices that go beyond current industry standards Your Role & Impact Serve as a technical leader in hydraulic modeling and system analysis Collaborate across disciplines to develop innovative, practical solutions for clients Contribute to thought leadership, including conference presentations, technical papers, and internal knowledge development Support business development efforts through technical strategy, scope development, and client engagement Mentor junior staff and help build a high-performing, forward-thinking modeling team What We're Looking For A self-motivated, growth-oriented engineer with a passion for becoming a recognized expert in hydraulic modeling A trailblazer mindset—someone who enjoys questioning assumptions, exploring new ideas, and pushing beyond standard practices Strong interest in innovation, technology integration, and continuous improvement Collaborative thinker who thrives in team-based problem solving and brainstorming environments Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts clearly Experience 5+ years of experience in water/wastewater system hydraulic modeling and planning Demonstrated experience with tools such as InfoWater, InfoSWMM, WaterGEMS, SewerGEMS, Surge, Excel, and ArcGIS Certifications Engineer in Training (EIT) required Professional Engineer (PE) license, or ability to obtain within 1 year Education Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering required Master’s degree preferred Why Wright-Pierce Direct mentorship from recognized industry experts Opportunity to help shape the future of hydraulic modeling practices A culture that values innovation, collaboration, and technical excellence Clear path toward technical leadership and professional growth Office Location(s) Tampa, FL Maitland, FL Your Benefits Wright-Pierce’s goal is to foster a culture of health and wellness.
