- Support classroom teachers to set instructional goals and implement comprehensive Tier 1 instruction
- Support the continued implementation of math and language arts curriculums
- Coach teachers towards improved student outcomes through formal coaching cycles
- Provide instructional guidance to classroom teachers, including co-planning and co-teaching lessons and units and modeling lessons
- Maintain coaching logs to monitor individual and group progress of implementation initiatives
- Facilitate the once monthly Aligned PD with staff (elementary)
- Design and implement professional learning experiences among teachers to employ a range of resources: analysis of lessons, tasks, videos, student work, data, peer observation, and common readings such as current research from the broader community
- Support the integration of educational technology to support literacy and math outcomes
- Cultivate strong and cohesive professional learning communities to develop a culture of collaboration and adult learning
- Elementary School Instructional Coaches: Participate in Instructional Leadership teams and facilitate grade level teams in the implementation of new instructional materials and Common Core State Standards.
- Middle School Instructional Coaches: Co-lead Instructional Leadership teams (with site administrators) and co-facilitate department teams (with department leads).
- Engage teachers in long and short term planning, reflect on evidence of student learning and support teachers in their practices
- Facilitate teacher work groups/common planning time or grade level team/department meetings and incorporate looking at student work or data in order to plan for and/or adjust instruction
- Support teachers/teams in administering, analyzing and using assessment data to inform decisions in planning instruction to meet students' diverse needs and progress monitoring results.
- Engage in identifying, supporting, and monitoring the achievement of focal students (AA, L, PI, EL, & SPED) with an emphasis on our African American and Latino students
- Attend and actively participate in district coaching network meetings and professional learning sessions to deepen your knowledge in content and coaching skills
- Maintain ongoing coaching logs and documentation for coaching accountability
- Maintain satisfactory summary evaluations as an Instructional Coach
- Knowledge of San Francisco's public schools/urban public schools and a passionate belief in SFUSD's commitment to instructional leadership as a lever toward delivering on the SFUSD Graduate Profile
- Strong analytics and systems thinking necessary to interpret data to inform goals and strategy, as well as build infrastructure where none exists
- Ability to work effectively across multiple functions and roles within a complex organization
- A proven record of effectively planning, organizing and using resources to take action and achieve goals
- The ability to learn quickly and adapt as needed in a fast-paced environment
- Outstanding organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail
- A flexible, "can do" work ethic with a focus on identifying challenges and proactively working to find solutions while maintaining a bigger picture lens and focus on what can be delivered instead of what cannot be done
- Excellent data analysis skills and experience synthesizing data to drive action steps
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build effective working relationships with senior level district staff and colleagues
- Effective written and verbal communication and the ability to clearly communicate complex, bureaucratic processes to a variety of audiences
- Ability to define and implement effective HR business practices
- Ability to work effectively in difficult situations that involve confidential and sensitive matters
- Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and GSuite (Google Docs, Slides, Sheets, Forms)
- Possession of a valid California Teaching Credential in the appropriate content area as required by the California Education Code, Section 44860 and English Learner certificate (CLAD or BCLAD) as required by Board Policy
- Outstanding and /or Highly Satisfactory summary teacher evaluations
- A demonstrated track record of improving student outcomes for focal student groups.
- At least five years of classroom teaching experience with demonstrated effectiveness in the subject matter, use of standards-based curriculum, instruction and assessment.
- Expertise with the CA Common Core State Standards, English Language Development standards, and culturally responsive instructional practices
- Experience facilitating collaborative planning for Tier 1 instruction
- Successful experience working with diverse adult and student populations; track record of success in an urban school setting
- At least two (2) years experience coaching, mentoring, or modeling lessons in PK-8 instruction
- Experience with group facilitation and conducting professional development for effective instruction
- At least two (2) years of adult leadership experience (e.g. ILT, SIPs mentorship, grade level/department lead)
- Demonstrated skill and experience with utilizing qualitative and quantitative data for instructional planning and professional development
- Ability to collaborate with District and school-based administrators and across programs
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; high degree of organization and effective time management
- Demonstrated knowledge of current research related to teaching and learning, school improvement, and educational equity
