Requisition No:885967 Agency: Department of Health Working Title: CHEMIST II - 64005505 Position Number:64005505 Salary: $38,264.07 - $43,061.72 Annually ***This advertisement will be used to fill multiple positions*** Your Specific Responsibilities: Prepare tests on all newborn screening filter paper blood specimens to detect infants at risk for Amino Acidemias, Fatty Oxidation Disorders, Organic Acidemias, Sickle Cell, Congenital Hypothyroidism, Galactosemia, Biotinidase Deficiency, Cystic Fibrosis, CAH and other Endocrine, Genetic and Metabolic Disorders. Initially check and approve test results electronically transmitted to mainframe computer database. Assure that all positives and borderline results have correct data concerning date of collection, birth weight, type of feeding and transfusion. Perform follow-up testing to confirm results on those infants at risk for the Disorders tested in the Newborn Screening Laboratory. Maintain quality control data, participate successfully in proficiency testing and take corrective actions as needed. Perform daily maintenance of instruments and troubleshooting if needed. Delineate blood spots for hand punch, machine punch and those that are unsatisfactory on a rotating basis. Perform other related duties as required. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of terminology, principles and techniques used in analysis and testing. Knowledge of procedures, techniques & equipment used in lab testing and analysis. Knowledge of the method of data collection. Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to work independently. Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments. Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
