EOEPOSITION SUMMARY: The Instructor will be under the direct supervision of the Educational School-Based Content Specialist and Program Director. The Instructor is responsible for providing a safe, caring, and enriching opportunity for participants enrolled within the COMPASS/ SONYC Programs. The Instructor will implement a project-based learning experience, utilizing UAU’s educational and work-readiness curriculum that will help and provide participants strengthen their educational skills. The Instructor will lead specialized activities such as STEAM, art, organized sports, music, literacy, academic support and other educational enriching activities as deemed necessary and appropriate based on programmatic needs.PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES (include but are not limited to):Provide evidence of curriculum development and work collaboratively with the Program Director and Educational School-Based Content Specialist.Implement and assist with the development of specialized activity lesson plans and instructional materials to provide individualized and group lessons utilizing a variation of teaching methods for programming curriculum.Independently supervise and manage groups of participants.Translate lesson plans into engaging learning experiences that create a fun and visually appealing environment.Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the physical, social and emotional development of participants.Facilitate a safe and productive learning environment for all participants.Model, enforce, teach and develop age appropriate social, physical and emotional behaviors.Employ positive behavior management strategies for disruptive and negative behaviors.Demonstrate positive leadership and act as a positive role model to participants.Abide by all compliance and safety protocols as outlined by the NYC Department of Health, NYC Department of Education, OCFS, DYCD and UAU.Participate in ongoing professional developmentPerforms other related duties as necessary or assigned.JOB QUALIFICATIONS:High School Diploma or GED required. Matriculated college student or better from an accredited university or college preferred,Knowledge of a particular subject area or specialty required such as but not limited to; STEAM, Art, Music, Various Organized Sports etc.Required - Minimum 2 years of experience working with children in a classroom setting, working with children less than 13 years of ageRequired - Minimum 1 year of prior experience teaching or facilitating group activities, with children less than 13 years of ageMust be culturally competent - ability to understand, be sensitive to the needs of, communicate with and effectively interact with people across culturesMust pass reference and background checksStrong verbal and written communication skillsStrong problem solving and mathematical skillsExcellent organizational and time management skillsDemonstrated ability to conduct and complete work independentlyWilling to take initiative and be flexible when neededExcels working in a collaborative environment to achieve target objects and outcomesPHYSICAL REQUIREMENT: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
