Overview American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter (Level II). 6.5 hours per day, 9 months per year. Fair Labor Standards Act Status: Non-Exempt. Qualifications Certified by the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA), both written and performance OR Passed the National Interpreting Certification Graduate from an Interpreter Training Program preferred Possess a high school degree or comparable equivalent Thirty (30) semester credits or forty-five (45) quarter credits from a post-secondary institution at an accredited university, college, community college or business school Demonstrated fluency in American Sign Language (ASL), both voice-to-sign and sign-to-voice Demonstrated interview skills Knowledge of the Code of Ethics specific to the role of interpreter Other Requirements Ability to lift and move moderately sized objects up to 50 pounds Regular attendance to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the position to achieve program requirements Essential Functions Work in a flexible and cooperative manner Treat co-workers, supervisors, students, parents and others with dignity and respect at all times Serve as a positive role model for students and model expected behaviors Move around school facilities with students May be reassigned with little or no notice due to the nature of work and student schedules Assist hearing impaired students in mainstream classrooms by interpreting lessons as taught by the classroom teacher Work with multiple students or with small groups of students Assist the teacher with communicating the lesson plan, working with tutorial groups and supervision Reinforce learning of material or skills with individuals or small groups of students Assist hearing impaired students in interaction and communication with hearing students and staff Interpret for hearing impaired students participating in regular classes, extracurricular events and conferences Voice-to-sign and sign-to-voice interpretation, or cue-to-voice and voice-to-cue as needed Must be able to drive between schools to address student needs when col- league absences are reported Must be flexible to reassignment if a deaf student is absent for a day or longer Regular attendance to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the position to achieve program requirements Benefits/Compensation Salary range: New employees start at the minimum hourly rate in the salary range. Prior years of service in similar roles may be considered for experience credit toward salary placement. Benefits: Employees who are anticipated to work at least 630 hours may be eligible for health, dental, vision, flexible spending accounts, life, and disability insurance benefits. Detailed information is available here. Retirement: Eligible for retirement benefits through the Washington State Department of Retirement Systems (DRS). Eligibility is based on FTE.
