Medical Technologist - Microbiology

This is a 13-week contract position with a schedule of 5x8s from 08:00 AM to 04:30 PM, Monday through Friday. There is a rotating weekend and holiday schedule, currently every third weekend.

The Medical Technologist will support high-quality laboratory testing in a clinical laboratory, specifically within the Microbiology service line. Responsibilities will include preparing specimens, performing routine and specialized laboratory tests, and conducting quality control and troubleshooting procedures.

Responsibilities:

• Perform culture setup, Gram staining, and rapid molecular testing (e.g., BioFire Torch panels and Cepheid assays).
• Analyze specimens and interpret test results with a focus on adherence to quality control standards.
• Communicate technical information effectively to both medical and laypersons.
• Assist in the training of laboratory personnel in routine procedures and participate in continuing education.
• Troubleshoot laboratory instruments and perform preventive maintenance.

Required Experience / Certifications:

• Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology or a relevant medical or scientific discipline.
• Certification as a Medical Technologist by ASCP BOC or equivalent.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in a clinical laboratory, preferably in Microbiology.
• Experience in culture reading, identification, and susceptibility testing is highly preferred.
• Experience with Beaker and rapid PCR setup is advantageous.
