The Washington DC VA Medical Center, located within sight of the Nation's Capitol, is the only health care system that specifically provides care to Veterans. Offering tertiary care in a Complexity Level IA hospital, allows our staff to provide comprehensive primary and specialty care in medicine, surgery, neurology and psychiatry. The medical center has 175 acute care beds, 30 Psychosocial Residential Rehabilitation Treatment beds, and a 20-suite Fisher House. Also, the medical center is home to an adjacent 120-bed Community Living Center which provides Veterans with geriatric long-term care, hospice and palliative care.

Overview (Duties Include But Are Not Limited)

• Selects and operates equipment, selecting proper technical factors on an individual patient basis, selects proper film size or given exam. Ensures proper identification and collimation, using appropriate markers, develops film as required.
• May assist in the use of a variety of equipment or procedure not routinely taught.
• Handles equipment in a responsible, professional manner.
• Transfers and properly position patients for examinations in order to obtain desired radiographic results according to physician specifications. Provides immobilization as required and protection in accordance with prescribed safety standards.
• Assists physician during angiographic procedures, working with specialized equipment. Assists physicians in performance of examinations by programming injectors, administering opaque media, holding and turning patients, assisting in sterile procedures.
• Demonstrates customer service principles and behaviors appropriately.
• Receives verbal orders for examination from a responsible practitioner in keeping with their state license.
• Adheres to prescribed standards for radiation safety. Participates in quality improvement and safety programs.
• Performs a variety of clerical tasks to include; pulling jackets, inputting/editing exams, and completion of requisition prior to setting films to be read.
• Takes advantage of opportunities for continuing education as provided by the department or seminars available for the various specialties, cross training in specialized areas.
• Ensures appropriate recording of hours worked, adhering to hospital policy.
• Actively seeks ways to control costs without compromising patient safety, quality of care or the services delivered.
• Demonstrates knowledge of the occurrence reporting system. Uses system to report potential patient safety issues.
• Follows established guidelines for reporting a significant medical error or unanticipated outcome in the patient's care which results in patient harm.
• Attends in-service presentations and completes all mandatory education requirements.
• Uses performance improvement plan to improve patient safety.
• Regular, punctual and dependable attendance.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• AART Registry Required
• Must perform general diagnostic procedures to include fluoroscopy, OR, and portables.
• Must have experience in client, Phillips, Siemens, and Cannon X-ray units.
• Experience with McKesson PACS highly desired.
• Associate degree in radiological technology required.
