Chief Financial Officer (CFO)

CAP3 is seeking an experienced and strategic Fractional Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to join our team in Wilmington, NC (this is not a remote position). The CFO is a senior executive and a strategic advisor to our clients, providing high-level financial leadership, analysis, and guidance. This role serves multiple client organizations as their outsourced CFO to deliver insight-driven financial management, strengthen financial operations, and support business growth and sustainability. The CFO works closely with CAP3|Reveal team and client leadership teams to interpret financial data, drive strategic planning, and ensure informed decision‑making across all financial matters.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities

• Serve as the fractional CFO for a portfolio of clients across various industries.
• Responsible for the management of financial reporting, presentation of performance dashboards, and supplemental reporting. Review and validate financial work prepared by internal team members. Interpret financial statements to understand and communicate opportunities and threats to the client. Partner with CAP3|Reveal team members to ensure the highest level of client service delivery.
• Evaluate key performance indicators (KPIs) and recommend improvements to drive profitability, efficiency, and successful accomplishment of client business objectives.
• Communicate financial information clearly to both financial and non-financial stakeholders.
• Maintain and improve client financial health through proactive management of liquidity, debt, and margin.
• Oversee budgeting, cash flow management, and financial forecasting processes for clients.
• Support capital planning, financing activities, and major investment decisions.
• Lead regular client communication meetings.
• Proactively counsel clients on how to strategically manage cash, inventory, other assets, debt, and profitability.
• Collaborate with other CAP3|Reveal CFOs to engage in receiving and providing additional perspective and insight related to how to best support each client’s success.
• Lead financial strategy development, forecasting, and scenario planning for each client.
• Proactively counsel clients on organizational and operational management and processes.
• Work with clients to understand their strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats.
• Assist clients in identifying short and long‑term goals and develop strategic planning to help clients achieve those short‑ and long‑term goals.
• Build trusted, long‑term relationships with client executives.
• Establish and develop relationships with external partners and other stakeholders that can benefit the client’s current and long‑term business and financial planning.

Required Skills/Abilities

• Experience with QuickBooks Online or other Accounting Platforms
• Proficient with Microsoft Excel
• Experience managing/supervising staff and reviewing their work/issuing feedback

• Experience preparing and analyzing financial statements and variance reports

Preferred Skills/Abilities

Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s or higher degree in accounting, or related field, required.
• Ten years of relevant experience required.
• Management accounting experience required.
• CPA License preferred.

Physical Requirements

• Prolonged periods sitting at desk and working on a computer.
• Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at a time.
