RN Clinical Nurse II - Children's Post Anesthesia Care Unit

Job Description The Children's Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) seeks a qualified individual to assist with providing excellent pre‑operative and post‑operative care to pediatric patients. The Children’s Perioperative area is a 10‑bay pre‑operative and a 9‑bay post‑operative unit that cares for pediatric patients of all subspecialties undergoing sedated procedures. PACU, ICU, ER, and/or general pediatric experience preferred. Work hours: 36 hours per week, including three 12‑hour night shifts (7 p.m.–7:30 a.m.). Participation in the on‑call schedule is required, with approximately two shifts per six‑week cycle. Summary Provides competent clinical nursing care consistent with professional standards, reporting and accountable to the Nurse Manager/Director. Responsible for coordinating and delivering patient care using the nursing process in a hospital setting. Responsibilities Education: Participates in identifying and meeting learning needs of self. Attends education programs based on identified learning needs. Uses patient education materials relevant to patient population with assistance. Assesses readiness to learn of the patient/family/caregivers and development level and factors affecting ability to learn. Evaluation of Care: Identifies expected patient outcomes. Seeks guidance as needed in revision of plan of care. Participates in interdisciplinary team discussion to evaluate patient care and communicates relevant information to promote continuity of care. Implementation: Demonstrates competence in care of patients with complex problems, including population‑appropriate physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety aspects. Performs bedside point‑of‑care testing as required. Utilizes organization and nursing standards, policies, and procedures. Prioritizes care and consults with resources for complex care issues, unusual teaching needs, and high‑risk discharge planning. Leadership: With assistance, develops goals to promote professional growth. Achieves goals within identified time frame or renegotiates with supervisor. Is knowledgeable about intra/interdepartmental collaboration. Participates in unit goal development and performance improvement. Uses communication systems, promotes cost‑effective care, gives feedback to co‑workers, and promotes a safe, clean, and secure environment. Patient Assessment: Recognizes data from complex situations to determine priorities for care. Synthesizes assessment data and anticipates discharge needs. Develops relationships with families that promote advocacy for the patient. Planning: Collaborates with patient/family to prepare or update plan of care. Uses multidisciplinary resources. Communicates planning, addresses cultural and ethnic issues, and prioritizes tasks for complex patients. Research: Reads relevant journals, brings ideas and questions to staff for assessment of applicability. Qualifications Education Requirements Graduation from a school of professional nursing. If hired after January 6 2014, must be enrolled within four years of employment and obtain a Bachelor’s degree with a major in Nursing or a Master’s degree with a major in Nursing within seven years of employment date. Licensure/Certification Requirements Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of North Carolina. Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification. Professional Experience Requirements One (1) year of nursing experience.
