CT Technologist - Job Description

Summary

The CT Technologist delivers high-quality computed tomography imaging while providing exceptional, patient-centered care in a safe and efficient environment. This role is responsible for patient preparation, imaging procedures, contrast administration, equipment quality assurance, and collaboration with radiologists and interdisciplinary care teams. The technologist ensures adherence to departmental protocols, regulatory requirements, and patient privacy standards.

Length of Contract: 3+ Months

Pay Range: $65-$70 Depending on experience.

Responsibilities

Patient Care

Patient identity verification - Confirm patient identity according to organizational policy.
Patient communication - Explain procedures before, during, and after exams to reduce anxiety and improve understanding.
Clinical review - Evaluate patient history, prior imaging, labs, and medical records to ensure exam readiness.
Contrast screening - Assess patient ability to receive contrast; screen for allergies and contraindications.
Monitoring & response - Observe patients throughout contrast administration and report changes to radiology or nursing staff.
Emergency procedures - Initiate appropriate emergency responses if complications arise.
HIPAA compliance - Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to all privacy regulations.

Imaging & Clinical Responsibilities

CT exam performance - Conduct CT examinations following established protocols.
Room & supply preparation - Prepare imaging rooms, contrast media, biopsy/drainage materials, and equipment.
Sterile technique - Maintain sterile technique and infection-prevention practices.
Venipuncture & injection - Follow venipuncture and power-injector protocols.
Image processing - Acquire, process, transmit, and verify images in PACS/RIS, including expedited workflows for trauma, stroke, and emergent cases.
Radiologist communication - Immediately notify radiologists of emergency studies or significant findings.
Workflow support - Assist with routine CT procedures and support efficient departmental operations.

Equipment & Quality Assurance

Quality control - Complete daily, monthly, and ACR-required QA/QC procedures.
Equipment troubleshooting - Identify equipment malfunctions and notify the Lead Technologist or Coordinator.
Cleaning & disinfection - Clean and disinfect scanners, tables, and peripheral equipment after each patient.
Inventory management - Stock supplies, monitor contrast media and procedure materials, and report expired items.
Work environment - Maintain a clean, organized workspace and storage areas.

Department Operations

Interdepartmental collaboration - Work with physicians, nursing units, transport, and other teams to coordinate patient care.
Scheduling support - Support efficient scheduling and prioritization of emergency, urgent, and routine CT procedures.
Patient flow - Help maintain timely patient movement and workflow throughout the department.
Safety & quality initiatives - Participate in departmental programs that promote patient safety, quality, and operational excellence.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED.
Graduate of an accredited School of Radiologic Technology or College-based Radiography Program.
ARRT Registered Technologist in Radiography RT(R) .
ARRT Registered Technologist in Computed Tomography RT(CT) .
New Jersey State X-Ray License (NJDEP).
Current BLS (CPR) Certification.
Venipuncture competency.
Previous CT experience in an acute care or hospital setting preferred.
