Medical-Surgical RN in Lexington, NC

Step into a vital nursing role providing care on a dynamic Medical Surgical/Telemetry unit in a teaching hospital with a Level 1 Trauma Designation and specialized centers for chest pain and stroke. This unit includes 20 beds across two areas and cares for a variety of adult medical patients, most commonly including those with CHF, COPD, kidney, liver, GI, and respiratory issues, infections, wounds, and transitional care needs.


Hours/Schedule:

• Night shift: 6:30 PM - 7:00 AM
• Every other weekend rotation
• Scheduling in 6-week cycles; travelers will fill schedule gaps
• Holiday coverage is required for half the major holidays in the contract period
• Up to 7 days of requested time off can be accommodated

Key Qualifications:

• Active RN license with at least 2 years' recent MedSurg experience
• BLS and ACLS certifications
• Proficiency in: trach care, chest tubes, IV starts, wound care (including vacs, dressing changes), central line blood draws, drains, and cardiac rhythm interpretation
• Experience with non-titrating drips (Heparin, Lasix, Protonix required; Cardizem and Amiodarone preferred but can be trained onsite)
• Previous travelers only (not accepting first-time travelers for this role)

Core Responsibilities:

• Deliver comprehensive nursing care for diverse adult medical and some surgical patients
• Manage patient load with a typical 1:5 ratio
• Collaborate closely with CNAs, charge nurse, physicians, residents, respiratory therapists, and ancillary staff
• Float to comparable units as needed within scope of practice
• Utilize EPIC EMR, Alaris IV pumps, and Omnicell medication dispensing systems
