Behavior Specialist

Destination Family Services is seeking a compassionate, dependable, and experienced Behavior Specialist to provide behavior support services to individuals receiving services through Indiana’s Community Integration and Habilitation (CIH) Waiver and Family Supports Waiver

(FSW).

The Behavior Specialist will conduct functional behavioral assessments, develop individualized behavior support plans, train support teams, monitor progress, and provide ongoing consultation. Services must be person-centered, trauma-informed, and focused on improving independence, safety, communication, community participation, and overall quality of life. The ideal candidate will have experience supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and collaborating with families, guardians, direct support professionals, case managers, and other members of the individual’s support team. Primary Responsibilities Conduct functional behavioral assessments and gather information through interviews, observations, record reviews, and data analysis. Identify factors that may contribute to challenging behaviors, including communication needs, environmental conditions, medical concerns, skill deficits, trauma history, and changes in routine. Develop individualized, person-centered behavior support plans based on assessment findings. Create proactive strategies designed to prevent challenging behaviors and teach appropriate replacement skills. Develop clear response strategies for caregivers and staff to follow when challenging behaviors occur. Ensure behavior support strategies are respectful, least restrictive, clinically appropriate, and consistent with the individual’s rights and preferences. Provide training and coaching to direct support professionals, families, guardians, and other team members. Observe individuals in their homes, day programs, workplaces, or community settings as appropriate. Monitor behavioral data and evaluate the effectiveness of behavior support interventions. Revise behavior support plans and recommendations when progress is limited or the individual’s needs change. Participate in Individualized Support Plan meetings. Collaborate with case managers, residential providers, day service providers, healthcare professionals, therapists, families, and guardians. Assist teams in responding to behavioral crises and identifying strategies to reduce future risk. Complete timely, accurate, and professional service documentation in accordance with Medicaid Waiver requirements and company policies. Complete required employee training, continuing education, background checks, and credentialing requirements. Travel to individual homes and community-based service locations within the assigned service area. Minimum Qualifications Master’s degree in Applied Behavior Analysis, Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, Special Education, Education, or another relevant human services field. Experience working with individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities. Experience conducting behavioral assessments and developing behavior support strategies. Strong written communication, clinical documentation, organization, and time- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with an interdisciplinary team. Ability to communicate respectfully with individuals, families, guardians, direct support professionals, and other providers. Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and current automobile insurance. Ability to successfully complete required background checks and employment screenings. Preferred Qualifications Current BCBA, BCaBA, LCSW, LMHC, LMFT, or other relevant professional credential. Experience providing behavior support services through Indiana Medicaid Waiver programs. Knowledge of the CIH Waiver, Family Supports Waiver, person-centered planning, positive behavior supports, and trauma-informed practices.
