Diabetes Educator RN PRN

Overview Barnes‑Jewish Hospital at Washington University Medical Center is the largest hospital in Missouri and is ranked as one of the nation's top hospitals by U.S. News & World Report. The department covers inpatient coverage for hospitalized patients referred by a licensed medical provider (RN, MD, PA, NP) with a diagnosis of diabetes or pre‑diabetes. The role involves counseling patients on insulin, oral agents, and survival skills, and directing them to outpatient programs for additional education. Role Purpose Provides direct patient care activities including assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation within the guidelines of the standards of nursing care. Responsibilities Promotes patient and family centered care in a healing environment. Educates patients and families on how to manage their illness or injury, including post‑treatment home care needs and medication administration. Participates in activities that promote patient safety, quality and regulatory compliance. Engages in professional development. Develops, implements, and documents individual plans of care with defined goals in collaboration with other members of the interprofessional team and patient, family or caregiver. Proactively plans and ensures communication of the plan of care across the continuum of care. Uses critical nursing skills to assess and evaluate physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs according to standards of care. Assesses patient preferences, barriers to involvement in care, including values, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and population‑specific needs. Schedule PRN 7:30‑4 Mon‑Fri, 2 shift in 6‑week schedule. Minimum Requirements Education: Nursing Diploma/Associate's in Nursing. Experience: No mandatory experience required. Supervisory Experience: Not mandatory. Licenses & Certifications: Must hold RN license. Must have previous diabetes education experience. Preferred Requirements Education: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing. Experience: Not mandatory.
