RN Clinical Nurse II - Ambulatory Surgery Center

The UNC Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) is a free-standing surgical facility, with 8 OR’s. Our department includes 9 Preop roomettes, 12 PACU bays, and 10 Short Stay Unit (SSU) Rooms. Our surgery center supports the following services: Orthopedics (Sports), ENT/OHN, plastics, general laparoscopic, general oncology, pediatric urology, urology, cystology and dental. BLS required, ACLS and PALS preferred. Schedule: 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM – Monday–Friday, primarily PreOp (will cross-train to PACU) Summary: Provides competent clinical nursing care consistent with professional standards. Reporting and accountable to the Nurse Manager/Director, the Clinical Nurse is responsible for coordinating and delivering patient care utilizing the nursing process in a hospital setting. Responsibilities Participates in identifying and meeting learning needs, attends relevant programs, uses patient education materials, and assesses learning readiness of patients, families, and caregivers. Identifies expected patient outcomes, seeks guidance to revise care plans, collaborates with interdisciplinary team, and communicates relevant information for continuity of care. Delivers competent care for patients with complex problems, performs bedside point-of-care testing, applies organizational standards and policies, prioritizes care, and consults resources for complex cases and discharge planning. Develops goals for professional growth, achieves objectives, facilitates collaboration, participates in unit goals and improvement activities, uses communication systems, promotes cost-effective care, provides feedback, and maintains a safe environment. Gathers data from complex situations, determines care priorities, synthesizes assessment information, anticipates discharge needs, and builds relationships with families to empower advocacy. Collaborates with patient/family to prepare or update care plans, utilizes multidisciplinary resources, communicates planning effectively, addresses cultural and ethnic issues, and prioritizes tasks for complex problems. Reviews relevant journals, proposes practice-related ideas, and engages staff in evaluating applicability. Qualifications Education Requirements Graduation from a school of professional nursing. If hired after January 6, 2014, must be enrolled within four years of employment, and obtain a Bachelor's degree with a major in Nursing or a Master's degree with a major in Nursing within seven years of employment date. Licensure/Certification Requirements Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of North Carolina. Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification. Professional Experience Requirements One (1) year of nursing experience.
