Custodian PositionThe Custodian maintains an attractive, sanitary, and safe facility for students, staff, and the public, provides equipment and furniture arrangements for meetings, classroom activities, and events, and minimizes property damage, loss, and liability exposure.Minimum Required Qualifications:One (1) year of job-related experienceMust be 18 years old or olderSpeak, read, write, present professionally, analyze, understand, and interpret written and verbal communications in EnglishPreferred Qualifications:Experience in a K-12 education or public employment environmentHigh school diploma or equivalentValid Driver's license and evidence of insurabilityExperience following safety practices and procedures, including industrial cleaning methods, Team Cleaning, Integrated Pest Management (I.P.M.), and Green Cleaning conceptsSpanish or other language proficiency, including the ability to read, write, speak, and understandBasic experience and proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, etc.) and experience using data-based softwareEssential Functions & Responsibilities:Clean assigned school facilities (e.g., classrooms, offices, gym, restrooms, multipurpose rooms, grounds, etc.) to maintain a sanitary, healthy, safe, and attractive environment while utilizing industrial cleaning methods, team cleaning, I.P.M., and Green Cleaning concepts and cleaning tools such as Protexus Electrostatic sprayers with Pathosans cleanerPrepare facility for daily operations (e.g., opening gates, building access doors, disarming security systems, raising flags, crosswalk signs, minor repairs, etc.) to ensure facilities are operational and safe for occupancyArrange furnishings and equipment to provide adequate preparations for meetings, classroom activities, and eventsAssist the Head Custodian with snow removal to maintain a safe environmentAssist the Head Custodian in maintaining supplies and equipment (e.g., cleaning solutions, paper products, vacuum, mops, etc.) to maintain a sanitary, healthy, safe, and attractive environmentParticipate in meetings and training (e.g., bloodborne pathogens, cleaning solvents, floor care, first aid, etc.) to receive information on current or updated proceduresRepair minor furniture and equipment damage to ensure that items are available and in safe working conditionRespond to immediate safety and operational concerns (e.g., facility damage, injured and ill students, alarms, etc.) to take appropriate action to resolve immediate safety issues and maintain a functioning educational environmentSecure facilities and grounds to minimize property damage, equipment loss, and potential liability to the districtSubstitute for the Head Custodian as needed when Assistant Head Custodians are not available to provide coverage that supports efficient department operationsCommunicate effectively and efficiently with diverse groups of people while maintaining confidentiality and positive working relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and other district employeesWork under limited supervision, utilizing time-management and prioritization strategies, accurately processing detailed information, and meeting deadlinesSupport a team environment by collaborating with own and other work units to effectively perform the duties of the positionAdapt to changing work priorities and work with frequent interruptions, as requiredAs needed, roll, push, pull, bend, reach, stoop, and lift up to 50 poundsPerform other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unitMaintain regular and predictable attendance to fulfill job requirements efficiently and effectivelyEmployee Supervisory Responsibilities: NoWork Environment & Physical Demands: Custodian Physical Demands FormThe Salt Lake City School District is committed to providing access, equal opportunity, and reasonable accommodation for individuals with disabilities in employment, and its services, programs, and activities.
