The candidates are expected to work in research projects funded by NSF, FEMA, DHS, and other local agencies. They will lead research activities involving harnessing and synthesizing the latest developments in artificial intelligence, remote sensing, and simulation and modeling techniques in the fields of infrastructure engineering, social science, and hydrologic science to improve the resilience and security of urban environments during natural and man-made extreme events. They will have opportunities to work in a state of-the-art lab as Rutgers Urban Informatics laboratory is equipped with a suite of sensing systems such as mobile and static lidar systems, infrared thermography cameras, drones, and EEG as well as advanced computing and visualization systems such as CAVE (an immersive visualization facility),VR, and AR and computing clusters for data intensive research. The candidates will also have access to several live testbeds deployed in critical facilities and communities for studies related to early flood warning systems, air quality prediction, and security in soft target and crowded places. The candidates are expected to publish conference and journal papers, collaborate in multi-disciplinary teams, and write grant proposals. Position Status Full Time Posting Number 26FA0456 Qualifications Minimum Education and Experience Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Civil and Environmental Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Coastal Marine Science, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field. The ideal candidates will have experience in one or more of the following topics: deep learning for image and point cloud data processing, deep learning for time series data prediction, digital twin, geospatial mapping with vehicle and UAV mounted remote sensing systems or robotic systems, crowd simulation, reinforced learning, flood modeling and impact analysis, complex system modeling, and optimization. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities This position requires good communication and presentation skills, and a strong proficiency in technical writing and editing. The individual will be expected to hold very high standards in how information is developed and presented.
