Position Details

Location: Froedtert Hospital (Milwaukee, WI) - Onsite
FTE: 1.000

Standard Hours: 40
Shift: 1
Schedule: TBD. Monday-Friday. 8 hour shifts will fall between 6:30am-6pm.

Position focuses on Direct Patient Care - will cross-train for Indirect Patient Care. Will also cross-train to cover Geriatric Clinic.

Direct (Focus)

This patient facing role is primarily responsible for performing hands on patient care and supporting providers while in clinic. Typical daily duties include but are not limited to, interacting with our patients while performing standard rooming, taking vitals, administering vaccines, setting up and turning over rooms, specimen collection, and assisting providers as needed. Completing patient refill requests, following our standard system refill protocol. Other duties as assigned. See job description for full details.

Indirect (Cross-train)

Largely computer based, a mostly seated role. This role is primarily responsible for the "behind the scenes" needs of our patients. Our indirect MA's utilize our Epic inbasket to review and respond to patient phone calls, MyChart Messages, refills, and paperwork. Depending on staffing needs, indirect teammates are shifted to support direct patient care. Other duties as assigned. See job description for full details.

Job Summary

The Medical Assistant (MA/MA Sr) is a healthcare professional and an essential member of the patient-centered healthcare team. The MA/MA Sr is instrumental in helping the patient feel at ease while collaborating with the provider throughout the patient's visit.

Responsibilities include:

• Maintaining Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Remaining compliant with all organization educational, licensure or certification
• Cross-training and floating as needed to provide services across sites and to maintain optimal clinic operations

Licenses & Certifications and Educational Requirements

Medical Assistant (MA):

Education : High school diploma (or GED) required plus one of the following:

• Completion of an MA program, or
• Completion of an EMT-Basic course, or
• Trained on the job MA AND one year experience in health care, or
• Completion of an MA Apprentice program

Certification : American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support for the Healthcare Providers (BLS) or an AHA approved equivalent required within 90 days of hire.

Experience : 1 year of healthcare experience preferred.

Medical Assistant Senior (MA Sr):

Education : HS Diploma or GED is required.

Certification : American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support for the Healthcare Providers (BLS) or an AHA approved equivalent is required within 90 days of hire.
Additionally, one of the following is required:

• Military Medic/Corpsman training (must also obtain one of the certifications or licenses below within 6 months of hire), or
• Certified/Registered Medical Assistant through one of the following:
• 1. Credentialed in ABR-OE (Assessment-Based Recognition in Order Entry), or
  2. Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), or
  3. Registered Medical Assistant (RMA), or
  4. NRCMA - Medical Assistant through the National Association for Health Professionals, or
  5. CCMA Certified Clinical Medical Assistant, or
  6. Certified Medical Assistant through the National Phlebotomy Certification Examination (NPCE)
• Certified Paramedic, or
• Advanced EMT, or
• Graduated from an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) program and current active LPN license, or
• Other certification from an approved body as maintained by Froedtert Human Resources

Experience : 1 year of experience as medical assistant or in the field of the credential held is required.
