Job Title: Maintenance Mechanic / Maintenance Technician
Job Description

This role is a hands-on maintenance position in a food manufacturing environment that requires strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills across multiple skilled trades. The Maintenance Mechanic will diagnose and repair equipment, perform preventive maintenance, support production and utilities operations, and contribute to continuous improvement efforts. The position involves welding and fabrication, electrical work, and working with systems such as VFDs, PLCs, and industrial controls while mentoring less experienced technicians.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical issues on production and utility equipment using established troubleshooting techniques.
• Perform welding and fabrication to create and repair basic components and structures as needed for maintenance work.
• Use a multimeter and other diagnostic tools to troubleshoot electrical circuits, control circuits, motor circuits, and related components.
• Start up, shut down, and support the operation of equipment and utilities to ensure reliable and efficient production.
• Operate the DAF (Dissolved Air Flotation) system, perform jar tests, and make appropriate chemical adjustments to maintain proper system performance.
• Complete required training in Troubleshooting Electrical Circuits, Control Circuits, Motor Circuits, Industrial Controls, and Industrial Controls 2, and apply this knowledge on the job.
• Troubleshoot and repair variable frequency drives (VFDs), hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems, and other mechanical components.
• Read, interpret, and work from electrical schematics and technical documentation to identify issues and implement effective solutions.
• Perform preventive maintenance tasks to reduce downtime, extend equipment life, and prevent recurring issues.
• Implement preventative measures during repairs to address root causes and improve long-term equipment reliability.
• Train and mentor Level 1 and Level 2 technicians in basic welding, electrical, and other skilled disciplines to build team capability.
• Demonstrate strong leadership by setting a positive example, sharing knowledge, and supporting cross-functional teams.
• Provide responsive and professional customer service to production and other departments, ensuring maintenance needs are addressed promptly.
• Manage time effectively, prioritize work orders, and balance urgent repairs with scheduled maintenance activities.
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance safety, efficiency, and equipment performance across the facility.
• Communicate clearly with team members, supervisors, and other departments about equipment status, repair plans, and maintenance needs.

• Proven experience troubleshooting mechanical and electrical systems in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
• Hands-on proficiency with troubleshooting tools, including the use of multimeters for diagnosing electrical issues.
• Ability to read, understand, and apply electrical schematics and technical documentation.
• Strong mechanical repair skills, including experience with hydraulics, pneumatics, and general mechanical systems.
• Experience troubleshooting and maintaining variable frequency drives (VFDs).
• Ability to perform basic to intermediate welding and fabrication for maintenance and repair tasks.
• Experience with preventive maintenance practices and procedures on production equipment.
• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and work with PLC-based systems at a basic level (PLC troubleshooting).
• Strong time management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with technicians, production staff, and other departments.
• Self-motivated attitude with the ability to learn independently and take initiative on maintenance tasks.
• Commitment to safety and continuous improvement in a manufacturing setting.

• Completion or willingness to complete training in Troubleshooting Electrical Circuits, Control Circuits, Motor Circuits, Industrial Controls, and Industrial Controls 2.
• Experience supporting production or utilities operations in a manufacturing facility.
• Previous exposure to food manufacturing processes or other regulated production environments.
• Experience operating or maintaining DAF systems, including performing jar tests and making chemical adjustments.
• Leadership experience, including training or mentoring junior technicians.
• Strong customer service mindset when working with internal departments.
• Ability to adapt to changing priorities and support continuous improvement initiatives.

Work Environment

This position is based in a food manufacturing environment with active production equipment and utilities systems. You will work around mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment, as well as process systems such as DAF and related controls. The role involves being on the production floor, performing hands-on repairs, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting in a setting that values safety, cleanliness, and reliability. Work hours may require flexibility to support production needs, respond to breakdowns, and complete scheduled maintenance during optimal times.

This is a Permanent position based out of Boise, ID.

The pay range for this position is $62400.00 - $72800.00/yr.
