Nurse Practitioner - Acute Pain Service

MedStar Medical Group Anesthesiology is seeking a dedicated and skilled Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join our Acute Pain Service (APS) consulting team at MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center (MSMHC) . This role is solely onsite at MSMHC, but may include telehealth support for other APS locations, but no travel required .

As part of a cohesive and highly specialized APS team, the NP will play a vital role in advancing pain management practices while working closely with anesthesiologists, surgeons, and multidisciplinary care teams in a hospital setting. This role offers a high-impact clinical experience within a fast-paced, collaborative environment, serving a diverse patient population across a wide range of complex surgical services.

Position Overview

The Nurse Practitioner will function as a clinical consultant within a multidisciplinary team, managing both acute and chronic pain for hospitalized patients. Key responsibilities include:

• Rounding daily on new and established patients
• Conducting comprehensive patient assessments and perioperative evaluations
• Performing histories and physicals (H&Ps), interpreting diagnostic tests, and developing care plans
• Prescribing and managing pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic pain treatments
• Managing epidural and peripheral nerve catheters
• Documenting clinical findings in progress notes
• Educating patients and families on pain management strategies
• Providing pain management education and serving as a clinical resource for healthcare team members across the institution

Position will include mandatory 6-8 weeks of initial, comprehensive training at MedStar Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C.

Full-Time Schedule (1.0FTE): Monday - Friday, (5) 8s, daytime hours; no weeknights, weekend or on-call responsibilities

USD $115,000.00 - USD $190,000.00 /Yr.
