This role will work a hybrid schedule coming into the Columbus, Ohio office 2 days per week on Mondays & Wednesdays. We are seeking an experienced people‑first leader to manage a team of Database Platform Engineers responsible for building, evolving, and supporting the foundational database platforms that power our critical business applications. This role is accountable for leading engineering execution, advancing platform reliability and scalability, and developing a high‑performing team that delivers secure, resilient, and efficient database capabilities across the enterprise. The ideal candidate brings a balanced leadership style grounded in practical decision‑making, strong execution, and a focus on outcomes. They should be comfortable setting direction, removing obstacles, and helping the team prioritize work that improves the platform experience for application teams and internal partners. Key Responsibilities Lead, coach, and develop a team of Database Platform Engineers responsible for engineering, automation, vulnerability management, and support of enterprise database platforms Drive the evolution of database platforms through standardization, automation, self‑service capabilities, and engineering best practices Partner with architects, application teams, infrastructure teams, and security partners to deliver scalable, resilient, and secure platform solutions Establish and improve platform health measures, service objectives, engineering metrics, and operational insights Support the team during major incidents and complex service events, while driving long‑term improvements that reduce toil and increase platform stability Create a culture of ownership, accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and product‑minded platform delivery Job Description Summary If you’re enthusiastic about delivering secure technology solutions to support a company providing extraordinary care to its customers, then Nationwide Technology is the place for you. The Technology Engineering Manager manages a staff of infrastructure engineers who analyze, design, develop and implement hardware/software. You’ll determine hardware/software systems requirements; lead systems hardware/software design; plan projects; and establish priorities. You’ll also coordinate with other managers to integrate projects with other systems hardware/software. As a people leader, you have responsibility for project deployment, career development, performance management and pay determination. You also may have the opportunity to mentor associates on other teams. Reporting Relationships Reports to Director/AVP, Technology Engineering Manager/Technology Product Manager; responsible for direct management of three or more Technology professionals. Typical Skills and Experiences Undergraduate studies in computer science, management information systems or a related field is strongly preferred. Technology certifications or designation are not required, but encouraged (i.e.: AWS, Azure, scripting and development languages, delivery methods, security). Eight years knowledge of operational management concepts and techniques. Experience leading multiple teams and assets across various technology platforms. Three years of management experience is preferred. Experience with concepts and solutions: IaaS, PaaS, SaaS and package solutions. Demonstrated knowledge of project management concepts and techniques. Extensive knowledge of budgeting and financial analysis concepts and techniques. Ability to develop, implement and present application development strategies. Must have the ability to manage a staff. Must have strong analytical and decision‑making skills. Must possess interpersonal savvy and well‑developed leadership ability. Must be able to perform financial and risk analysis. Must possess negotiation skills. Must have strong oral and written communication skills to interact with all levels of associates, senior management and vendors.
