Responsibilities Coder (Certified) Aiken Regional Medical Centers, located in Aiken, South Carolina, is a 273-bed acute care facility providing top quality and safe healthcare to the residents of Aiken and surrounding communities since 1917. Aiken Regional Medical Centers has been ranked a top hospital in South Carolina by the American Heart Association for its treatment of heart attack, heart failure and Stroke, and most recently, coronary artery disease. Visit us online at: Position Description This position is responsible for coding inpatient and outpatient medical records according to ICD-10-CM and CPT in keeping with AHA coding guidelines. Codes are assigned to all diagnostic and procedural statements as documented in each patient’s medical record to determine the most accurate and optimal MS-DRG assignment. Duties Thoroughly reads and interprets documentation in the medical record to identify all diagnoses and procedures. Demonstrates proficiency with overall utilization of hospital encoder/grouper and its functions. Effectively utilizes AHA Coding Guidelines and other reference sources available within the department. Serves as coding resource for other departments/providers. Qualifications Requirements Graduate of accredited coding program, 4 year or 2 year required. One year of inpatient/outpatient coding experience in an acute care facility required. CPC, COC, CIC, CCA, CCS, RHIT, or RHIA credential required. Knowledge of PC applications including Windows and 3M Encoder. Must demonstrate coding proficiency by earning an acceptable score on a coding test.
