Multi-Needs Community Driver

The position requires the licensing and driving of a yellow school bus. A class B CDL and School Bus Permit must be obtained and maintained for the fullfillment of the position. Candidates who do not already possess a valid school bus permit and/or CDL will be considered as long as the candidate meets the prerequisite requirements of the Illinois Secretary of State for a school bus permit and CDL license: Minimum Age: 21 years old, clean driving record, ability to pass physical and drug test. The work day for this position is 8 a.m. - 3 p.m. following the regular school year calendar.

Job Description

Position: Multi-Needs Community Driver

Reports to: Multi-Needs Program Administrator

Job goal: The Multi-Needs Community Driver will provide services to student in the Multi-needs Program ages 3-18 that have developmental and physical disabilities. Services will be provided in a community setting. The primary goal of the Multi-Needs Community Driver is to assist in transporting students to and from community instruction sites and to assist in the implementation of community instruction programs. The Multi-Needs Community Driver will work collaboratively with the classroom team to support the community instruction needs of students.

Qualifications

1. Eligible employee must be age 21 or older and maintain a current Illinois State driver's license.

2. Maintain a standard Illinois Bus Driver's permit and/or CDL in compliance with the DuPage County Regional Office of Education and the Illinois State Transportation rules and regulations.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Provide safe transportation for students and staff to and from community sites.

2. Assist in the implementation of community instruction programs.

3. Assist with the creation of community schedules.

4. Complete daily safety checks for all vans/buses. Report any problems to the Program Administrator.

5. Keep Program Administrator apprised of renewal dates for safety sticker, license plates and city stickers.

6. Maintain general maintenance for all vans/buses utilized by the program.

7. Comply with accident procedures as established by SASED Administrator.

8. Assist with in-servicing staff on safety procedures, telephone usage and evacuation drills. Maintain documentation of all in-service and safety drills.

9. Provide input regarding additional community instruction options to the Program Administrator.

10.Demonstrate the ability to follow individualized behavior plans created by the educational team.

11.Demonstrate proper safety measures regarding equipment, supplies and the ability to safely transfer students using a variety of specialized equipment.

12.Work flexibly with student of varying ability levels.

13.Demonstrate professional work ethic and excellent interpersonal skills to promote a collaborative team effort.

Terms of employment: Up to 177 day work year at a pay rate established by the Board of Control in accordance with its Agreement.

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated every other year by the Multi- Needs Program Administrator in accordance with the Board of Control policy on evaluation of educational support personnel.
