Registered Nurse - Medical Surgical

Job Description

Job Summary:
Provides comprehensive nursing care to diverse patient populations within a medical-surgical setting, ensuring patient safety, education, and satisfaction while adhering to clinical standards and policies.

Responsibilities:

• Perform thorough assessments across all age groups from Pediatric to Geriatric, tailoring care to individual growth and development stages.
• Deliver competent clinical care supporting patient needs, including emergency procedures and equipment usage.
• Maintain accurate and complete documentation of nursing interventions, patient progress, and education activities.
• Exhibit professionalism by adhering to policies, identifying areas for growth, and demonstrating accountability in patient care.
• Respond courteously and professionally to patients, families, and team members, promoting a patient-centered environment and maintaining HIPAA confidentiality.
• Follow safety protocols, including Universal Protocol and patient identification, ensuring safe transfer techniques and proper body mechanics.
• Manage unit-specific duties related to surgical patients, customizing care based on procedures and anesthesia.
• Prioritize and coordinate patient care, adjusting based on evolving conditions, with responsibility and accountability for care outcomes.
• Assess patient and family understanding of surgical instructions through pre- and post-operative education.
• Support pre-admission testing processes, evaluating orders for appropriateness and potential omissions in relation to surgery and patient health.

Qualifications:

• Valid RN license required.
• Minimum of 1-year clinical experience in a hospital or comparable setting.
• Demonstrated competence in assessment and clinical skills.
• Strong understanding of safety protocols including Universal Protocol and patient identification.
• Ability to effectively document patient care and education in compliance with guidelines.
• Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing; Associates or Bachelor's Degree preferred.
