Heavy Equipment Mechanic

Job Title: Heavy Equipment Mechanic / Diesel Mechanic Location: 75 W 3rd Ave Huntington, WV 25701 Company: C.J. Hughes Construction Pay: $20.75 - $32.50 Position Overview We are seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment/Diesel Mechanic to join our team. This individual will be responsible for maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing a wide variety of heavy equipment including excavators, skid steers, backhoes, dump trucks, and support vehicles. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, dependable, and thrives in a fast-paced environment where no two days are the same. Key Responsibilities Diagnose and repair diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical components, and drivetrains. Perform routine maintenance including oil changes, inspections, and part replacements. Troubleshoot equipment failures in the field and provide timely repairs to minimize downtime. Maintain accurate records of repairs, parts used, and service reports. Operate tools and equipment safely while following company and OSHA safety standards. Collaborate with operators, supervisors, and shop personnel to ensure equipment reliability. Stay current with industry practices, technology, and diagnostic tools. Requirements Minimum of 3 years’ experience as a heavy equipment or diesel mechanic Strong knowledge of hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical systems. Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics. Proficiency in using diagnostic software and tools. Valid driver’s license (CDL a plus). Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check. Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team. Preferred Qualifications Formal training or certification in diesel/heavy equipment mechanics. Welding and fabrication experience. Field service repair experience.
