This is a senior leadership role for someone who knows the Phoenix community deeply, has built real partnerships with the organizations serving it, and wants to apply that knowledge to community-based research and programs that advance health equity and improve access to care. This is a senior leadership role for someone who knows the Phoenix community deeply, has built real partnerships with the organizations serving it, and wants to apply that knowledge to community-based research and programs that advance health equity and improve access to care. The Deputy Director will work with the Executive Director to strategically expand visibility and impact for the IPH in Phoenix, by establishing a program of community engagement that addresses Creighton and Institute mission by advancing health and health equity through authentic community-based partnerships. To ensure sustainability, the Deputy Director will be charged with establishing IPH programming and services that attract external funding opportunities through sources including philanthropy, grants and/or contracts. They will collaborate closely with IPH colleagues in Phoenix and Omaha, leveraging and expanding the skills available across both campuses. As the Institute’s senior leader on the ground in Phoenix, the Deputy Director will support junior faculty, staff and students on the Phoenix campus. Specifically, they will oversee graduate student programs for the IPH, including the LEAD Scholars program, the Piper Health Disparities Fellowship (in close affiliation with the St. Vincent de Paul clinic in Phoenix), and future programming that may be established. If interests and needs align, opportunities for teaching will be developed and encouraged. Essential Functions Supervise and develop Phoenix-based IPH staff. Build and oversee IPH programming in Phoenix including but not limited to the LEAD Scholars program, engaging faculty and staff in research, evaluation and associated community engagement efforts with key organizations, and leading the Piper Health Disparities fellowship at the St. Vincent de Paul clinics. Lead administrative functions related to budget management, funds development, and operations functions in partnership with internal business office personnel with support from the IPH Senior Administrator as needed. May include teaching functions to align with a possible faculty appointment. Qualifications PhD, DrPH, or equivalent doctoral-level training (or equivalent professional experience) in public health, health services research, community-based participatory research, or a related field. A minimum of 8-10 years of progressively responsible leadership experience in population health, community health, or a closely related field. Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities Deep knowledge of, and established relationships within, the Phoenix and greater Arizona community and health care landscape. Demonstrated experience working with community-based organizations, tribal nations, and/or health systems in a partnership or coalition context. Substantive experience in community-based participatory research or applied academic initiatives that advance health equity, access to care, or health-related social needs. Experience managing and developing teams, including staff and/or trainees. A genuine enthusiasm for mentorship, with a track record of creating opportunities for students and early-career professionals. A track record of securing and managing external funding — federal, foundation, or health system — sufficient to sustain research or programmatic work over time.
