Mental Health Assistant

The Mental Health Assistant participates in the development and implementation of clients' behavioral programs by providing care and close supervision of facility clients and documenting behavior, by developing positive relationships with clients and co-workers and following facility policies and procedures, by implementing treatment plans and providing crisis intervention as necessary.

Job duties and responsibilities include implementing individualized treatment plans through continuous line-of-sight supervision, maintaining facility safety through close observation, alertness, and proactive risk awareness, promoting client participation in individual and group activities with positive guidance and encouragement, completing accurate, timely documentation of client behavior and daily activities, applying and developing counseling skills under clinical supervision in individual or group settings, ensuring clients' basic needs are met, including hygiene, clothing, and linens, escorting and supervising clients during meals, recreation, education, and medical appointments, responding to crises using de-escalation techniques and sound safety judgment, using effective communication, boundaries, and positive reinforcement to support a healthy peer environment, and performing other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications include a BS/BA degree and/or one year direct care experience or supervised practicum in lieu of the experience preferred, high school diploma (or equivalency) and behavioral health experience in lieu of a bachelor's degree, behavioral health and residential setting experience preferred, and must be at least 21 years of age. Must be able to complete a mandatory, two-week new hire orientation (M-F). This role requires a full background check including fingerprint, drug screen, and employment verification.
