Job Description: 

PATIENT POPULATION:

The patient population served is all patients, including geriatric, adult, adolescent, pediatric, and newborn. This also includes services which affect facility staff, physicians, visitors, vendors and the general public.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Provides Obstetrics and Gynecology services for individuals presenting for care to Sierra View Medical Center's (SVMC) OB Clinic in accordance with formal education and clinical training. The participant's skills and talents will be maximized in a progressive care setting with comprehensive technologies and capabilities that advance a full range of gynecology procedures. Must be able to work closely and collaboratively with Providers, Medical Assistants, and paraprofessionals in direct patient care, treatment and teaching; assists developing, implementing, and evaluating patient educational material. Contributes to the Sierra View Medical Center OB Clinic in a positive manner.

Will elicit detailed patient histories; conduct complete advanced practice provider examinations; thorough documentation of the patient assessment and treatment supporting care provided. Reaches timely diagnosis, orders appropriate testing/resources for patient care needs, develops and discusses plan of care for patient including counseling of the patient and family on health condition; providing appropriate documentation; educational materials; prescriptions; and referrals to specialists, as needed. Engages customers in a patient centered practice, utilizing patients preferred name, being courteous by recognizing and respecting the individual diversity of every patient and the uniqueness of every patient care event.

The role is supported by general policies and standards of practice; SVMC policies, medical staff by-laws, and regulations as defined by Federal, State, and local government, compliance with Medicare/Medi-Cal/CMS requirements of participation, EMTALA, and the Nurse Practitioner Board of California. Provides care appropriate for an outpatient, obstetrics/ gynecology health center with a multicultural patient population. Required to participate in the development, review, and approval of clinic policies and procedures as a part of active compliance with SVMC program standards. Must maintain the department in compliance with rules and regulations set forth by governing agencies.

Matrix Reporting Structure: Reports to Manager/Director OB Clinics as delegated by the VP of Patient Care/ Chief Nurse Officer for administration and operational issues. Oversight of medical practice is by the Obstetric Gynecologist Physician. 

Must be able to work normal/scheduled working hours to include Holidays, call-backs, weeknights, weekends, and on-call. Agrees to participate, as directed, in emergencies and community disasters during scheduled and unscheduled hours. As a designated disaster service worker, you are required to assist in times of need pursuant to the California Emergency Services Act.

Minimum education: Bachelor's degree; Minimum Training/Experience: completion of a Nurse Practitioner academic program approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing of California is required; Must have at least 2 years of experience working in an outpatient clinic, with experience working in Obstetrics/Gynecology service at least 6 months. Bilingual Spanish/English preferred.

Proficient in reading and interpreting various documents, including safety guidelines, operational procedures, maintenance instructions, and manuals. Capable of preparing routine reports and correspondence as needed. Ability to speak and write in English, with the ability to write clearly, comprehend verbal and written instructions, and follow directions accurately.

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages if required.

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have basic computer skills.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATIONS:

• Must hold an active and unrestricted Nurse Practitioner license and Registered Nurse license from the California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN).
• Must have and maintain current BLS certification or obtain within orientation process, prior to hands-on patient care.
• ACLS/PALS is preferred.
• Must maintain DEA registration and California Nurse Practitioner Furnishing Number if prescribing controlled substances.
• Must maintain documentation required for credentialing through medical staff services.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Regular, punctual attendance and physical presence at the assigned work location and workstation, ready to perform job duties at the scheduled start time.
• Provide comprehensive preventive women's healthcare services, including well-woman examinations, health risk assessments, breast and pelvic examinations, preventive screenings, and health promotion counseling.
• Assess, diagnose, treat, and manage acute and chronic gynecologic conditions across the lifespan using evidence-based clinical guidelines and established standards of care.
• Provide routine prenatal care, including assessment and monitoring of maternal and fetal well-being, pregnancy evaluations, patient education, and coordination of care throughout pregnancy.
• Conduct postpartum evaluations and follow-up care, including assessment of maternal recovery, screening for perinatal mood disorders, breastfeeding support, and management of postpartum concerns.
• Obtain comprehensive patient histories and perform focused and comprehensive physical examinations to formulate differential diagnoses and treatment plans.
• Order, perform, interpret, and communicate diagnostic, laboratory, imaging, and screening studies necessary for the evaluation and management of patient conditions.
• Prescribe medications, therapies, and other treatment interventions within licensure, scope of practice, organizational policy, and applicable regulatory requirements.
• Provide family planning and reproductive healthcare services, including contraceptive counseling, fertility education, and related preventive and therapeutic interventions.
• Perform office-based procedures within demonstrated competency and approved privileges, including cervical cancer screening, STI testing, endometrial biopsy, insertion and removal of contraceptive devices, and other credentialed procedures.
• Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatment options, medications, preventive health measures, and self-management strategies to support informed healthcare decisions.
• Coordinate patient care across the healthcare continuum, including referrals, consultations, follow-up care, discharge planning, and collaboration with internal and external healthcare providers.
• Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant clinical documentation within the electronic health record and complete all required reports, forms, and records in accordance with organizational, legal, and regulatory standards.
• Collaborate effectively with physicians and team members to promote quality patient outcomes, continuity of care, patient safety, and clinical excellence.
• Participate in quality improvement, peer review, patient safety, accreditation, and compliance activities to support regulatory readiness and organizational performance objectives.
• Maintain professional competency and licensure requirements, participate in continuing education, uphold professional standards of conduct, and contribute to clinic operations, protocol development, and staff education as appropriate.
