The Partnership is a non-profit, in-district partner to LA Unified, not a charter network. As an independent nonprofit organization, the Partnership serves 12,200 students across 20 LA Unified schools in Boyle Heights, South Los Angeles, and Watts. To learn more about the Partnership, our mission, and how we approach our goals, please visit our website.ABOUT THE POSITION The Partnership for Los Angeles Schools is seeking a Secondary Literacy Coach for School Transformation to join our mission to improve learning and academic achievement for students in the Boyle Heights, South Los Angeles, and Watts communities. The Partnership Instructional Coaching Program's purpose is to cultivate, align, and codify conditions for instructional coaching best practices. Partnership Coaches are key resources in closing opportunity gaps through building teacher capacity.
Instructional Coaches partner with one school within our network and work onsite to cultivate teacher capacity by providing professional development, supporting teachers to develop and implement impactful curriculum aligned with Common Core Literacy standards, and collaborating with teachers using data to improve learning goals and outcomes. Coaches also collaborate within a cohort of Partnership team members to address successes and challenges at their specific school sites, analyze data, and strategically and effectively meet the needs of the schools within their cohort. The ideal candidate for this position has a background in and love for teaching, including significant experience with Secondary and Literacy instruction, Common Core, and teacher development. This is a full-time, year-round position that is dependent on individual school budgets and organizational need.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES Position responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Curriculum Development & Implementation
- Work with cohort and Literacy teams to develop and execute priority initiatives for Literacy instruction at Partnership schools
- Develop and oversee the implementation of Literacy curricular materials, including curriculum maps, common assessments, technology-connected learning programs, and other tools to support teachers and students in meeting Common Core standards
- Collaborate with school administration to support effective instruction of Common Core, ensuring systems are in place for the Literacy team to be successful
- Collaborate with other members of the Partnership Instructional Team and Literacy Teams to coordinate activities, develop teacher support resources, address issues and concerns, and exchange best practices
- Build teacher capacity to implement Common Core Literacy instruction, including utilizing curriculum maps, planning from standards, developing units and lessons that incorporate culturally responsive pedagogy and practices, developing assessments, implementing instructional strategies, and using data to inform instruction
- Conduct regular classroom observations and facilitate coaching conversations with the goal of teacher growth and student learning
- Design and deliver school-specific professional development to support the delivery of Literacy instruction and provide teachers and leaders with instructional resources related to Common Core
- Lead the development of a team-based, collaborative, and data-centric environment for teachers that is focused on student outcomes
- Facilitate data inquiries on an ongoing basis to assess the progress and needs of schools, teachers, and instructional initiatives, and support leaders and teachers in analyzing and responding to the data
- Work with school leaders to plan for and lead data cycles with grade-level or department teams of teachers
- Create, implement, and maintain trackers for data, coaching, professional development, and other requests from the Coordinator and school administrators
- Collaborate with school leadership, teachers, and Partnership teammates to enhance instruction and learning for students
- Attend monthly Partnership all staff meetings and participate in Partnership Instructional Coaching Program meetings and retreats
- Participate in Partnership annual planning and performance management cycles
- Engage in Coach-Focused Competency growth and development
- Build relationships with partner school teachers and administrators
- Developing a system of coaching cycles, professional development, and data analysis conversations in partner school
- Demonstration and implementation of Coach Focused Competencies
- Coach teachers to deliver instructional practices that protect access to grade-level content
- Support teachers to enable students to think about and grapple with grade-level content in every classroom and in every lesson
- Support teachers to enable students to demonstrate mastery of grade-level content
- A proven record of academic success working with students in historically underserved schools and setting high expectations for teachers and students, including at least 5 years of full-time teaching experience in grades K-6/12 and 2 years of school leadership experience (coaching, teacher leader, department chair, BTSA coach, peer observer, etc.)
- Bachelor's degree and teaching credential are required, and a master's degree or other advanced degree is preferred
- Experience designing, leading, and facilitating professional development for adult learners, preferably elementary/secondary teachers; knowledge of and experience with adult learning theory is a plus
- Deep working knowledge of Literacy Common Core state standards as well as Instructional Shifts for Literacy
- Comfort and skill observing and providing direct feedback to teachers, both written and verbal, that leads to tangible improvement, as well as a demonstrated ability to motivate, inspire, and build strong working and mentoring relationships with adults
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with administrative staff, instructional staff, and support staff
- Strong analytical and computer skills, including the ability to utilize quantitative and qualitative analysis to support decision-making
- Ability to travel between school sites in South Los Angeles, Boyle Heights, and Watts, as well as the Partnership home office in Downtown Los Angeles
- Experience with Culturally and Historically Responsive Education framework is a plus
- Flexibility and a sense of possibility in stressful situations
- Working understanding of K-12 public education sector with a lens into LAUSD
