Nuclear Medicine Technologist

Performs Nuclear Medicine Procedures by preparing, administering and measuring radioactive isotopes for therapeutic, diagnostic and other tracer studies using a variety of radioisotopes and equipment.

Essential Job Duties And Responsibilities

• Calculate, measure and record radiation dosage or radiopharmaceutical received, used and disposed, using computer and following physicians' prescription.
• Detect and map radiopharmaceutical in patient's bodies using a camera to produce photographic or computer images for physician interpretation.
• Perform quality control checks on laboratory equipment.
• Maintain and calibrate radioisotope and laboratory equipment.
• Dispose of radioactive materials and store radiopharmaceutical, following radiation safety procedures and regulatory guidelines.
• Prepare radiopharmaceutical, adhering to safety standards that minimize radiation exposure to workers and patients.
• Explain test procedures and safety precautions to patients and provide them with assistance during test procedure.

Other Job Duties And Responsibilities

• Prepares room, equipment, and materials as needed.
• Prepare patients for nuclear medicine examinations, by explaining procedures, positioning patients for imaging and monitoring patients and equipment throughout procedures.
• Consistently demonstrates competence in performing nuclear medicine procedures.
• Observes patient and equipment during procedure, reports unusual occurrences and records patients condition.
• Maintains professional, courteous, and cooperative manner with patients, co-workers, and public.
• Follows proper procedure for clerical and administrative tasks as related to job.
• Exercises initiative as appropriate in performance of duties.
• Demonstrates a working knowledge of the Hospital Information System and Isite (PACS) and completes documentation of exams.
• Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served.
• Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
• Demonstrates growth in nuclear medicine field. Attends appropriate continuing education programs to maintain/develop skills and knowledge.
• Supports customer service and performance improvement goals of the department.
• Maintains standards of confidentiality.
• On-call Responsibilities.

Credentials

• Nuclear Medicine Technologist (Required)
• ARRT or NMTCB (Required)
• ARRT (N) or NMTCB (CNMT) certification within 6 months of hire.
• Basic Cardiac Life Support (Required)
• BLS certification within 6 months of hire.

Education Or Equivalent Experience

• Other (Required)
• Education Specialization: Graduate of a CHEA, AMA, and/or JRCNMT Nuclear Medicine program, or equivalent. Equivalent Experience: 1 year experience as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist in a hospital setting preferred.

Salary Range: $45.75 - $72.93/Hourly As part of their job offer, successful candidates are provided a specific rate, taking into consideration various factors including experience and education.
