Job Title: Forklift Operator Job Description

This role focuses on the safe and efficient operation of material handling equipment within a fast-paced warehouse environment. The Forklift Operator supports day-to-day distribution and housekeeping activities, promotes a strong safety culture, and ensures the facility remains clean, organized, and compliant with established procedures. This position offers 1st shift (Monday–Friday, 5:30 a.m.–2:00 p.m.) and 2nd shift (Monday–Friday, 1:30 p.m.–10:00 p.m.) schedules.

Responsibilities

• Promote and maintain a strong safety culture at all times, strictly adhering to all plant safety policies and procedures.

• Operate all on-site material handling equipment safely, including forklifts, floor sweepers, scrubbers, and related tools.

• Empty trash cans and recycling containers as needed and monitor compliance with the facility-wide recycling program.

• Manage corrugated materials, including safe operation of all baling equipment.

• Support general housekeeping in the warehouse, including assisting with spill clean-up and maintaining a clean, orderly work area.

• Maintain adequate water levels in the batteries of all material handling equipment to ensure optimal performance and safety.

• Assist with housekeeping requirements during equipment preventative maintenance initiatives.

• Maintain the Distribution Housekeeping Log in accordance with the Distribution Housekeeping Standard Operating Procedure, including signing and dating the log when tasks are completed.

• Complete weekly, monthly, and quarterly housekeeping assignments in line with the Distribution Housekeeping Log requirements.

• Assist with training and certification programs for material handling equipment and related processes as needed.

• Perform other duties as assigned to support warehouse operations and distribution activities.

Essential Skills

• Six (6) months to one (1) year of work experience, or an equivalent combination of experience and education that provides the knowledge and abilities needed to perform the job.

• Six (6) months of stand-up forklift experience in a fast-paced warehouse environment preferred.

• Demonstrated ability to safely operate forklifts and other material handling equipment.

• Experience with basic material handling tasks, including picking and moving product within a warehouse.

• Cleaning and general housekeeping experience in an industrial or warehouse setting.

• Preferred experience working with a Warehouse Management System (WMS).

• Ability to follow safety policies, standard operating procedures, and housekeeping guidelines accurately.

• Capability to complete assigned tasks on weekly, monthly, and quarterly schedules with attention to detail.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in a fast-paced distribution or warehouse environment.

• Familiarity with recycling programs and corrugate management processes.

• Comfort working with documentation and logs, including signing off on completed tasks.

• Willingness to participate in training and certification programs for equipment and safety procedures.

• Ability to work effectively on either 1st or 2nd shift as scheduled.

• Strong awareness of safety practices and commitment to maintaining a safe work environment.

Work Environment

This position is based in a busy warehouse and distribution facility that operates on 1st shift (Monday–Friday, 5:30 a.m.–2:00 p.m.) and 2nd shift (Monday–Friday, 1:30 p.m.–10:00 p.m.). You work around forklifts, floor sweepers, scrubbers, balers, and other material handling equipment, following established safety and housekeeping procedures. The environment requires regular movement, handling of materials, and participation in cleaning and maintenance activities to keep the facility safe, organized, and compliant with standards.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of York, PA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $19.00/hr.
