Patient Care Technician- Emergency Department

$15.75 - $23.65 per hour

Department 36102 Alleghany Health - Emergency Department Position Details Full time, 36 hours per week. Schedule: Days 7a‑7p, rotating schedule with every other weekend. Pay range: $15.75 – $23.65. Education / Experience High school diploma or GED equivalent with one year experience as a Nurse Aide II and/or previous experience as an Emergency Medical Technician, ECG Technician, and/or Phlebotomist. Licensure, Certification, or Registration Nurse Aide II, Emergency Medical Technician, ECG Technician, or Phlebotomist. Essential Functions Participates in the implementation of the nursing process by giving direct care to patients under the direction of a Registered Nurse. Creates and maintains a safe and therapeutic environment for patients, self, co‑workers, and the facility. Ensures complete, accurate, and timely communication of patient information. Performs special procedures correctly under direction of a Registered Nurse. Communicates to the team, co‑workers, patients, and family members in an effective, positive, and professional manner. Takes personal responsibility and initiative for performance and for professional growth and development. May perform electrocardiograms on order of a physician, at the direction of the RN or per protocol. May perform phlebotomy on order of a physician or at the direction of the RN. Collects samples for forensic testing (blood and/or urine) at the direction of an RN. Provides age/developmental appropriate patient care in accordance with Age/Developmental Specific Care Guidelines for the specific age groups served. Performs other duties as directed by leadership. Skills and Qualifications Excellent oral, written, listening, and interpersonal communication skills. Maintains annual competency through documented education and return demonstrations/skill checks. Ability to perform procedures under direction of an RN as requested. Work Environment Contact with patients under a wide variety of circumstances, working in a continually changing environment. Possible exposure to blood, bodily fluids, infections and contagious diseases. Occasional exposure to radiation hazards, cleaning agents/chemicals. Subject to many interruptions and irregular hours. Requires use of personal protective equipment. Physical Requirements Standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching with arms, finger and hand dexterity, talking, hearing, seeing. Ability to lift, carry, push or pull up to 20 lbs. maximum, 50 lbs. maximum, 100 lbs. maximum.
