Description: This is a nicotine-free facility. All drug reports must show a negative result for nicotine/cotinine. If tested positive, a review will occur if the traveler has been prescribed a nicotine patch. For reports with no legitimate reason for positive nicotine/cotinine, the contract will be canceled. This medical surgical unit cares for both adult and pediatric patients. The pediatric patient age range is from 29 days to 15 years. The unit has a total of 20 beds, all of which are private rooms. Patient ratios are 1:4 for pediatric patients and 1:5 for adult patients. The electronic medical records system used is EPIC. There is a charge nurse available 24/7 who will also take a patient load of 2-3 patients. Nurse aides are utilized on the PM shift and, if needed, on the night shift. On weekends, the requirement is to work every other weekend. The major holiday requirement is to work only one major holiday. Scrubs are provided, and the color of the scrubs is teal. There is no telemetry on the unit. Continuous respiratory monitors are utilized to measure O2 saturation, respiratory rate, heart rate, and/or ETCO2. There are no ventilators on the unit. High flow nasal cannula (HFNC) can be used for adult patients. If pediatric patients require HFNC, they are transferred to the ICU. Adult hospitalists and intensivists are available 24/7. There is no IV team, but RNs trained in ultrasound-guided IV insertions are available. Respiratory therapy is available 24/7. The pharmacy is available 24/7 and responds to all codes. Floating is expected only to other medical/surgical units. Travelers will receive 3-4 shifts of orientation with a preceptor on the unit. Common diagnoses include RSV, Croup, Bronchiolitis, pneumonia, gastrointestinal issues for pediatric patients, and various adult health issues. This role requires experience with both pediatric and adult medical/surgical patient care.
