About the Role

As a Mechanical Project Engineeryou will be the driving authority when it comes to project technical execution. You will be leading the project team’s mechanical engineers to ensure flawless execution of project technical deliverables. You will be responsible for leading project technical teams through the concept, detailed design, integration and commissioning activities. This role combines leadership, technical expertise and people management to drive project success. As aProject Engineer,you will be given the opportunity to act as theProject Technical Lead-the owner of all technical aspects and execution of a project. As theProject Technical Leadyou will drive the technical decisions, and execution for the project and lead and direct the project’s engineering teams.

Specific Responsibilities

• Technical leadership in project execution; establishing and following execution plans, managing the engineering team’s task completion, issue tracking and resolution.

• Provides technical direction and guidance to the project’s engineering team.

• Ensures customer requirements are understood, flowed down and implemented in the design – delivering a system that meets the customer’s requirements.

• Ensures projects are executed in adherence to internal and external design standards

• Project technical scope management – identify, track and roll up the internal / external scope change requests

• Managing project technical risk through risk registers, scope change logs, proof of principle (POP) or pull-ahead testing

• Ensure team adherence to ATS’ engineering process and procedures; ensuring design and verification documentation are filled out and project information is documented in the correct location for traceability.

• Provides status reports for their assigned projects.

• Provides feedback to team members’ supervisors on performance

• Accountable for ensuring technical teams’ tasks are complete on time and technical issues are closed out in a timely manner.

• Contribute to providing engineering cost / schedule updates to the Project / Program Manager (PM)

• Contribute to overall project execution planning

• Contribute to Customer Kick-offs and Customer Design Reviews through hosting and preparation

• Review concepts and estimate labor for Sales and Applications proposals

• Acting as theProject Technical Leadas assigned;Project Technical Leadresponsibilities include:

• The head technical authority for the project – the key decision maker on design; integration and commissioning activities. Soliciting feedback from key stakeholders to provide the right technical decisions.

• Drive projects through the design and commissioning process

• Scheduling and Hosting ICRs (Internal Concept Reviews) and IDRs (Internal Design Reviews)

• Completion of key project deliverables including but not limited to:

• Project Playbook (or equivalent record keeping for single source of technical truth for the project)

• Safety Risk Assessments

• SISTEMA reports

• Certifications / Compliance records

• Technical Risk Evaluations

• Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEAs)

• Functional Requirements Specifications (FRS) or equivalent

• Acceptance Test Plans

• Design calculations (as required)

General Responsibilities:

• Ensures all business activities are performed with the highest ethical standards and in compliance with the ATS Code of Business Conduct.

• Work in compliance with divisional health, safety and environmental procedures.

• Ensures all employees under their supervision understand and comply with ATS Health and Safety procedures and assumes responsibility for their safety.

Qualifications

Education:

A post-secondary diploma, degree or equivalent qualification, specializing in Mechanical or Mechatronics design and/or engineering.

Experience:

• A minimum of 5 years of experience in mechanical / mechatronics design, development and qualification of factory automation projects.

• Proven leadership qualities including:

• good oral and written communication skills,

• ability to lead and lead team members, and

• a willingness to take responsibility and ownership for the technical project execution.

Additional Information

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

• The employee may be required to stand, walk, push, pull, reach overhead, and bend to the floor.

• Exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or exert up to 10 pounds of force frequently.

• Visual Acuity – Normal requirements for reading written instructions and computer screens.

• Hearing Ability – Normal requirements for understanding verbal instructions.

• Working Conditions – The employee is subject to a normal office environment with occasional exposure to high noise levels and/or physical hazards when visiting manufacturing floor.

• Ensure that the required protective equipment is used for the assigned tasks

• Attend all required health, safety and environmental training

• Report any accidents/incidents to supervisor

• Assist in investigating accidents/incidents

• Refrain from engaging in any prank, contest, feat of strength, unnecessary running or rough and boisterous conduct
