Rate of pay range: $25.74-$29.24 per hour per hour (Based on experience) following the FY27 pay schedule for Skilled Maintenance

As a Maintenance Technician, you will perform skilled and semi-skilled mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and structural work across our vibrant district facilities and grounds. JOB SUMMARY

This position performs skilled and semi-skilled mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and structural maintenance and repair work across school district facilities and grounds. The primary focus of this role is to ensure all school environments are mechanically sound, safe, and fully operational for students, staff, and visitors.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying. Typical qualifications would be equivalent to:

• High School Diploma or GED; technical school coursework or apprenticeship in a trade (HVAC, electrical, plumbing) is highly desirable.
• Three (3) years of successful experience in commercial or institutional facility maintenance, preferably in a school environment.
• Valid Illinois Motor Vehicle Operator's license and a clean driving record.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Responsible for the repair and maintenance of all district facilities including; furnishings, fixtures and equipment.
2. Coordinate with Maintenance Supervisor on matters concerning repair, replacement or upgrade of equipment and systems
3. Assist Head Custodians and Groundskeeper as needed.
4. Perform arc and gas welding
5. Performs routine preventative maintenance and repairs on HVAC systems, including replacing filters, belts, and troubleshooting minor mechanical issues.
6. Inspects, maintains, and repairs plumbing systems, including fixing leaks, unclogging drains, and repairing or replacing fixtures (toilets, sinks, water fountains).
7. Performs basic electrical maintenance, such as replacing switches, outlets, ballasts, and light fixtures, ensuring adherence to safety protocols.
8. Conducts regular safety inspections of facility structures, doors, locks, windows, and hardware to secure buildings and prevent hazards.
9. Performs carpentry and structural repairs, including repairing drywall, painting, fixing cabinetry, and maintaining flooring.
10. Monitors, operates, and performs minor troubleshooting on computerized building automation systems (BAS) and energy management systems.
11. Inspects and tests emergency systems, including fire alarms, emergency lighting, and exit signs, to ensure compliance with safety regulations.
12. Responds promptly to emergency maintenance requests or safety hazards during and outside of regular school hours.
13. Operates and maintains a variety of hand tools, power tools, and specialized maintenance equipment safely.
14. Assists with seasonal grounds maintenance, including operating heavy snow-removal equipment and addressing exterior safety hazards.
15. Maintains accurate logs of completed work orders, preventative maintenance schedules, and parts inventory using the district's work order system.
16. Because the employee is visible to the public, attire should be neat and clean, as the job will allow. Hair and beard shall be neatly trimmed. Clothing shall consist of long pants and a shirt with sleeves, socks and shoes. Clothing which is ragged, badly torn or contains offensive language or symbols is not allowed. During the summer, when students are not in session, knee length trousers are permitted.

• Working knowledge of the practices, methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in the building trades (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and carpentry).
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, technical manuals, and safety data sheets (SDS).
• Ability to follow oral or written work orders, and to effectively communicate technical issues to the Director of Facilities and Building Principals.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and manage time effectively to complete work orders.
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative, respectful working relationships with students, staff, contractors, and the public.
• Basic computer literacy to utilize electronic work order systems, email, and building management software.
• Ability to work above ground from ladders, scaffolding, and automatic lifts (up to 30 feet or more).
• Knowledge of occupational hazards and standard safety precautions (e.g., Lockout/Tagout).

• Required to respond to emergency call-ins outside of standard working hours when facility issues jeopardize school safety or operations.
