The Registered Nurse (RN II) upholds the professional image of the Nursing Department as a role model and mentor for other disciplines, utilizing knowledge base and experience; provides nursing care to residents through the nursing department; maintains a safe, therapeutic environment, using the least restrictive measures necessary and upholds the rights and dignity of the residents and their families. The incumbent will demonstrate KSA’s and/or competencies required to perform the job duties, including knowledge of professional nursing principles and techniques for assessment, care and treatment of individuals with mental illness, aging individuals, women, men, and culturally diverse populations; laws and regulations governing nursing practice; infection control in a high-risk environment; effective communication (verbal, written and group); medical terminology for mental health care; collaboration with physicians to develop care plans, assess crises, provide support and education, and integrate internal and external mental health services; and skills to complete training to operate in a distinct, complex and secure environment. Must have a valid VA RN licensure. This position is for evening shift, 5 days a week, 8-hour days. Minimum Qualifications The successful incumbent will have the following knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the job duties, including: Professional nursing principles and techniques for assessment, care and treatment of individuals with mental illness and diverse healthcare needs Knowledge of laws and regulations covering nursing practices relative to resident protection Infection control principles in a high-risk environment Effective verbal, written and group communication Medical terminology used in assessment and treatment of mental health clients Ability to work with physicians to develop care plans, assess crises, provide support and education, and integrate mental health services Ability to complete specific training to perform in a secure environment Experience and Certifications Experience practicing as a registered nurse is required Experience in psychiatric, medical, or correctional settings preferred VA Registered Nurse licensure Special Instructions You will be provided a confirmation of receipt when your application and or résumé is submitted successfully.
