About Hope House Hope House is Hope Ignites Detroit’s licensed, voluntary residential program for up to six girls aged 12 to 17.We provide a safe, supportive home while Scholars attend school in the community and build the academic,social, emotional, and life skills they need to thrive. Position Overview The Overnight Residential Counselor is the awake, on-site staff member responsible for Scholar safety and supervision throughout the night. This person builds trusting relationships, responds calmly to needs and emergencies, completes required checks and records, and prepares the home for the morning. The role requires dependable attendance, sound judgment, and the ability to remain alert for the entire shift. Primary Responsibilities Remain awake, on site, and available throughout each assigned shift; provide direct supervision and maintain the staffing coverage required by Hope House’s approved plan. Complete and document variable-interval, eye-on checks while Scholar’s sleep or are outside direct supervision, with no more than 15 minutes between checks, in accordance with Michigan licensing rules and Hope House procedures. Respond to illness, distress, conflict, safety concerns, and emergencies; following crisis, fire, evacuation, mandated reporting, and notification procedures. Support bedtime and morning routines with warmth, clear boundaries, respect for privacy, and age-appropriate guidance. Administer and document medication only as authorized and trained under Hope House procedures; report errors or concerns promptly. Maintain accurate overnight logs, safety checks, medication records, incident reports, and shift handoffs; promptly alert the Program Director or designated on-call leader of significant concerns. Complete appropriate light household tasks during quiet hours, including preparing for breakfast and school, while keeping supervision and safety as the first priority. Protect Scholar confidentiality and work with families and colleagues respectfully and professionally. Required Qualifications At least 21 years old, under Hope Ignites Detroit’s hiring standard; high school diploma or GED required fordirect care workers under Michigan licensing rules. Experience supporting adolescents in a residential, foster care, behavioral health, or similar youth-serving setting preferred. Ability to remain awake and attentive overnight, respond to emergencies, write clear records, and work independently while communicating with the residential team. Ability to maintain appropriate boundaries and use trauma-informed, culturally responsive approaches with Scholars and families. Ability to meet all applicable licensing requirements, including qualifying references, criminal and child abuse/neglect background checks, tuberculosis screening, and required training before independent duties. Current or obtainable age-appropriate CPR and first aid certification; complete Hope House crisis intervention training. Training and Work Schedule Hope Ignites Detroit provides required orientation and ongoing training. At least 16 hours of orientation mustbe completed before assuming duties, with 50 total training hours in the first year and 25 hours annuallythereafter for staff covered by the licensing rules. Overnight shifts, weekends, holidays, and occasionalschedule adjustments are part of this full-time position. Exact shift hours will be confirmed in the offer letterand staffing schedule.
