Mechanical Engineer

BLADE is seeking a Mechanical Engineer for its Fredericksburg, VA facility. This role will participate in the design, development, implementation, and analysis of parts, systems and technical processes for current systems such as CBRN and CWS (containerized weapon) and other upcoming integrated systems. The Mechanical Engineer role offers a variety of engineering experiences and opportunities including design/drafting, analysis, testing and continuous improvement initiatives. Position is 100% on-site.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Strong mechanical fundamentals (statics, dynamics, thermodynamics, etc), strong understanding of electrical/electronic skills is a plusPerforms complex design, trade studies and research tasks to support the development of mechanical and electrical systems within integrated productsAbility to conceptualize and implement the design of complex systems and mechanisms to support customer specifications and requirementsDesigns a complete project, system, component, or process and prepares project documents including test reports, technical reports, progress reports and final project reports as required.Designs and conducts experiments, analyzes and interprets data, formulates and solves problemsDrafting of production drawings for machined parts, fabrications and weldments, COTS parts, assemblies, and schematics using SolidWorks and other related toolsStatic and dynamic structural analysis using a variety of tools including both hand calculations and finite element analysis (FEA)Knowledgeable of materials needed to optimize strength, weight, cost, and performanceUnderstands machining and manufacturing processes to optimize cost without sacrificing performanceParticipates in the review of design, manufacturing, procedures, military specifications, inspection analyses, and test documentation to ensure quality requirements are metAssists lab and production personnel with hands-on manufacture, assembly, and inspection of new/revised products (prototypes and first articles)Create/maintain BOMs using Excel and SAP softwareEDUCATION/WORK EXPERIENCE/OTHER REQUIREMENTS:BS degree in Mechanical Engineering3-5 years’ experience in similar technical roleMilitary/ defense experience desiredProduct development experience- concept to production releaseExperience in a production environmentMechanically inclined and able to problem solve with little informationApplication of technical principles/techniques from established practices, as well as a functional knowledge/understanding of mechanical engineering processes, techniques, and practices to quickly/accurately perceive the fit, form, function, and manufacturability of designKnowledge of 3D mechanical CAD design (Solidworks preferred)PC-based computer experience including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint is essential; SAP experience a plusStrong, proven organizational and time management skillsStrong, proven problem solving and analytical skillsEffective oral and written communication skillsGood interpersonal skillsRoutinely punctualWhat WE offer:Employees (and their families) are covered by Medical, Dental and VisionEmployees are covered by Short Term and Long Term Disability and Basic Life Insurance, Paid 100% by the companyCompany matching 401(k) plan10 standard holidays, plus one floating holidayPTO“This position requires access to or use of export-controlled technical data or technology controlled by the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) or Export Administration Regulations (EAR).
