Empower Mobility: ADA Travel Trainer & Eligibility Specialist

The ADA Travel Trainer Eligibility Specialist is responsible for reviewing ADA paratransit application materials, conducting in‑person interviews and functional assessments to determine eligibility, and providing education and training on public transportation usage for individuals and seniors. Location: Chicago, IL. This role includes office work and frequent field travel throughout the Chicago area. Conduct in‑person interviews to assess mobility capabilities. Select and administer appropriate functional assessments (e.g., physical functional assessment using outdoor/indoor courses, FACTS, MMSE, Tinetti Balance and Gait Assessment, Beck’s Assessment). Provide written eligibility determination documents to clients within required time frames. Interpret ADA paratransit applications, intake forms, and professional verification forms. Follow up on pending assessments and verification as needed. Maintain applicant tracking logs and reports for Transdev and clients. Communicate effectively with Transdev and client personnel and provide high‑quality customer service. Participate in staff meetings, community outreach, and training sessions. Support appeals processes when requested. Educate participants on safe use of public transit resources. Develop custom training materials for each participant. Manage individual travel training schedules using scheduling software. Travel outside the immediate area up to 50% of the time. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in social services, rehabilitation, ancillary health care, or related field (or equivalent experience and certifications such as COTA, OT, PT). Valid driver’s license. 3+ years of professional experience working with individuals with disabilities. Knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) regulations. Experience conducting ADA paratransit eligibility assessments. Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Ability to teach transit maps, schedules, and routes to individuals with disabilities and seniors. Authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship. Strong interviewing, assessment, and observation skills; ability to work with a diverse population. Ability to administer and score standardized evaluation tools consistently. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong organizational and multi‑tasking abilities. Flexible work hours and adaptability to changing conditions. Ability to work independently in field environments and meet project commitments promptly. Maintain confidentiality and conduct under limited supervision. Additional language skills are preferred. Must pass a pre‑employment drug screen. Physical Requirements Work outside in varying temperature, weather, and humidity conditions roughly 50% of the time; rest of the time indoors. Sit for extended periods (up to 8 hours) and frequently walk long distances on uneven surfaces. Push/pull or lift objects up to 50 pounds. Stand and move in heavy traffic, tolerate dust, fumes, and noise. Travel within the Chicago area with a personal vehicle.
