Position Summary Emerging Store Manager (ESM) is a developmental leadership role preparing associates for potential Store Manager positions. The assignment is expected to last 12–18 months, with mobility within the assigned region. The role involves training and developing store operations competencies, including merchandising, people leadership, financial management, customer experience, and community engagement. Key Responsibilities Train and develop associates in retail operational acumen, people leadership, merchandising strategy, financial management, customer experience, and community engagement. Assist in managing the store’s financial performance by authorizing and managing expenditures against budget, monitoring sales and profit goals, and analyzing economic trends. Generate, review, and act on business reports and profit‑and‑loss statements. Support sales by ensuring effective merchandise presentation, accurate pricing, proper in‑stock levels, and proper signage. Model, enforce, and provide direction to hourly associates and managers on customer service approaches and techniques. Analyze and assist with projected staffing plans, talent pipelines, and succession planning processes. Initiate, direct, and participate in community outreach programs, promote sustainability efforts, and serve as a community liaison. Uphold the Open Door Policy, meet with associates, listen to concerns, research issues, review company policies, and provide resolutions. Assume a role in leading and directing the store management team, establishing and implementing store objectives, communicating goals, monitoring performance, providing feedback, and ensuring compliance with policies. Implement and monitor asset protection, safety controls, quality assurance standards, and operational reviews. Develop, communicate, and execute business plans and projects, identifying customer and operational needs, removing obstacles, measuring progress, and adapting strategies. Build and maintain partnerships with key stakeholders across the organization. Provide supervision and development opportunities for associates, including training, mentoring, performance evaluations, recognition, and coaching. Required Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in management, business administration, retail management, or financial management, and two years’ experience in a management role within a retail, operations, or distribution environment with supervisory and mentorship responsibilities. Four years’ experience in a management role within a retail, operations, or distribution environment with supervisory responsibilities and financial accountability. Two years’ general management experience, including financial accountability. For facilities that sell firearms: successful completion of a firearms‑specific Criminal Background Check (CBC) and Firearms Authorized Training. For facilities that sell only ammunition and have state‑specific requirements: successful completion of a current state‑issued Certificate of Eligibility. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in management, business administration, retail management, or financial management with three years’ experience in a management role and financial accountability. Bachelor of Science in Business Management and Leadership through Live BetterU and Bellevue University. Demonstrated willingness and ability to relocate within the assigned region. Experience as a Walmart Assistant Manager, Coach, or Store Lead with readiness for increased scope. Experience running a fresh, dry grocery, or general merchandise area. Supervising 50 or more associates/employees with responsibilities for performance management, mentoring, and employment decisions. Salary & Compensation The annual salary range for this position is $85,000.00–$120,000.00. Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Certain positions may also include Regional Pay Zone (RPZ) and Complex Structure factors based on external conditions.
