Orthopedic Medical Assistant

Full Job Description Position Title: Medical Assistant Classification: Hourly Summary / Objective The Medical Assistant works as a liaison between Operations, Physicians, and the other staff at their assigned location. The MA will play an integral part in day-to-day operations and serve as a role model for others. This position will directly supervise subordinate staff leading the clinic in the areas of quality assurance and best practices. Medical Assistants perform duties to assist health care professionals in the examination and treatment of patients, including preparing the patient and the environment for treatment; meeting the communication needs of patients and family; conducting basic diagnostic tests; providing patient care coordination and patient education. Onsite Inventory Management in coordination with the Operations Manager. Implement best practices and contribute to continuous improvements. Greets and takes patients to exam rooms and prepares patients for provider examination. Assist the provider during the clinic. Correctly updates patient information in the EMR at each visit. Makes sure that all diagnostic tests, hospital reports, and other medical records are available prior to clinic visits to provide quality patient care. Prepares injectable solutions. Maintains organization, cleanliness, and inventory of the exam rooms. Orders supplies as needed. Provides cross-coverage for others MA's/willingness to travel to other physician offices as requested or needed. Maintains workflow in the department without direct supervision. Works cooperatively with coworkers, providers, and management. Shares knowledge and insights with co-workers in a constructive manner. Maintains inventory management of clinical, injectibles/medications ensuring expiration dates have not passed. Obtains patient vital signs on a continuous basis. Responsibly handles and disposes of biohazard waste according to OSHA standards. Ensure proper patient information is entered into the ultrasound machine and that ultrasound exams are properly saved in our PACS system. This role is routinely exposed to common health care conditions, smells, noises, chemicals and such. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
