Reports To Position: Rehabilitation Supervisor or Manager

Department: Rehabilitation

Position Overview: The Speech Language Pathologist evaluates, plans, and provides treatment and rehabilitation as prescribed by a referring physician. Works with family and team members regarding patient's abilities and goals.

This position does not directly manage any other caregivers.

Essential Functions and Duties:

• Adheres to Oregon State Speech-Language Licensing Board Standards.
• Performs evaluation and treatment of patients with speech, hearing, language, voice, cognitive or swallowing disorders.
• Provides community resource, knowledge and referral services.
• Provides staff consultation and training.
• Functions as a member of the Interdisciplinary Care Team to assure care is accomplished effectively and efficiently in a cost effective manner.
• Participates in clinical care conferencing.
• Gathers data and accurately documents information in a timely manner demonstrating compliance with department standards.
• Participates with team members in facilitating patient's and family's learning throughout the course of care. Reinforces patient's continued health care through teaching and/or referral to community agency follow-up.
• Supports the vision, mission and values of the organization in all respects.

• Provides and maintains a safe environment for caregivers, patients and guests.

Education:

• Required: Masters degree in Speech-Language Pathology from a college or university accredited by the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association.

Licensure/Certification/Registration:

• Required: Must have necessary requisites for licensure as a Speech-Language Pathologist by the Oregon State Board of Health. Must have active Certificate of Clinical Competance (CCC) from the American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA). Must have necessary requisites for a valid Oregon driver's license and ability to meet St. Charles Health System driving requirements. Ability to travel to business functions/trainings/meetings and all St. Charles Health System worksites. Current AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider certification. ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence.

Experience:

• Required: 1 year experience required of therapy procedures with medical based diagnoses and familiarity with rehabilitation practices.
• Preferred: Previous experience in a hospital-based setting. See additional position information for list of preferred certifications.

Personal Protective Equipment:

• Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required to perform the job safely.

Physical Requirements:

• Continually (75% or more): Standing and walking, keyboard operation, use of clear and audible speaking voice and the ability to hear normal speech level.
• Frequently (50%): Sitting, lifting/carrying/pushing or pulling 1-25 pounds.
• Occasionally (25%): Bending, stooping/kneeling/crouching, reaching overhead, grasping/squeezing, ability to hear whispered speech level.
• Rarely (10%): Climbing stairs.
• Never (0%): Climbing ladder/step-stool, lifting/carrying/pushing or pulling 25-50 pounds, operation of a motor vehicle.
• Exposure to Elemental Factors:
• Rarely (10%): Wet/slippery area, chemical solution.
• Never (0%): Heat, cold, noise, dust, vibration, uneven surface.
