Rand Eye Institute is seeking an experienced, compassionate, and motivated Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) or higher (COT/COMT) to join our growing team of ophthalmic professionals.

We are looking for a technician who thrives in a fast-paced environment, provides exceptional patient care, and enjoys working alongside highly respected ophthalmologists utilizing the latest diagnostic technology.

Retina experience is preferred but not required. We are committed to training motivated technicians who possess a strong ophthalmic foundation and a desire to continue learning.

Minimum Qualifications

• Current JCAHPO certification (COA minimum; COT or COMT preferred)
• Minimum 1 year of ophthalmic clinic experience
• Excellent patient communication and customer service skills
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
• Ability to multitask while maintaining efficiency and accuracy
• Professional demeanor and positive team attitude
• Experience with electronic medical records

The Ophthalmic Technician will work closely with our physicians to provide exceptional patient care and ensure efficient clinic flow.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Patient Care
• Obtain comprehensive medical and ocular histories
  Document chief complaint, medications, allergies, and review of systems
• Measure visual acuity and pinhole vision
  Perform manifest refraction and lensometry when indicated
• Measure intraocular pressure using Goldmann or iCare tonometry
  Assess pupils, extraocular motility, confrontation visual fields, and color vision
• Instill dilating and diagnostic eye drops per physician protocol
  Prepare patients for physician examination
• Educate patients regarding diagnoses, testing, medications, surgery, and follow-up care
  Diagnostic Testing
• Perform and/or assist with:
  • Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)
  • Fundus Photography
  • Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography (OCTA)
  • Visual Field Testing (Humphrey)
  • External photography
  • Optical Biometry (IOLMaster)
  • Corneal topography (preferred)
  • Additional ophthalmic diagnostic testing as needed

Physician Support

• Accurately document examination findings in the electronic medical record
• Scribe during physician examinations when needed
• Assist with office-based procedures
• Prepare examination rooms and equipment
• Coordinate patient flow to maximize clinic efficiency
• Equipment & Clinic Operations
• Operate and maintain advanced ophthalmic imaging equipment
• Ensure exam rooms are stocked and organized
• Maintain cleanliness and infection-control standards
• Follow OSHA, HIPAA, and patient safety guidelines
• Assist with inventory and supply management
• Work collaboratively with physicians, imaging technicians, scribes, surgery coordinators, and front office staff

Preferred Experience
Experience with any of the following is highly desirable:

• Retina clinic
• Intravitreal injection clinics
• Heidelberg Spectralis
• Heidelberg Anterion
• Zeiss Clarus imaging systems
• Optical Biometry (IOLMaster)
