Pharmacy Technician – Full-TimeUPMC Hamot is seeking a dedicated Full-Time Pharmacy Technician to join our team. In this role, you will support the delivery of high-quality pharmaceutical care by assisting with medication preparation, distribution, and inventory management in a fast-paced hospital setting.The Pharmacy Technician provides pharmaceutical care to patients within the UPMC Health System by assisting with sterile and nonsterile medication preparation, medication filling, and distribution activities. All services are provided in compliance with Department of Health, The Joint Commission, and State Board of Pharmacy regulations.This role is essential to ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant medication use processes. A $5,000 sign-on bonus is available to eligible candidates in exchange for a 2-year work commitment with UPMC.Preferred:Prior hospital or health-system pharmacy experienceExperience with automated dispensing cabinets (e.g., Omnicell)Familiarity with medication safety practices, inventory management, and regulatory standardsStrong communication and teamwork skillsResponsibilities:Medication Preparation & FillingAssist in filling medication orders, including labeling, counting, stocking, and proper documentationPrepare oral and injectable medications, including IV admixtures and TPN, using proper techniquesWork in sterile compounding areas, including preparation of hazardous medications (e.g., chemotherapy) using aseptic techniqueMedication DistributionSupport distribution of medications, including cassettes, crash carts, and controlled substances in accordance with policy and regulationsRetrieve discontinued medications and return them to appropriate pharmacy areas, including processing credits if neededMaintain positive and professional service relationships during the distribution processInventory & Investigational SupportAssist with procurement, storage, preparation, and distribution of investigational or study medicationsMonitor and maintain inventory levels across pharmacy areas, including automated dispensing systemsGeneral DutiesCommunicate effectively with hospital personnel, patients, and visitors; refer clinical questions to pharmacistsMaintain a clean, organized, and adequately stocked work environmentFollow proper hand hygiene and safety practicesUtilize computer systems to process and maintain patient and medication recordsMaintain required documentation (e.g., refrigerator logs, inventory logs, compliance records)Follow all applicable regulations, including HIPAA, OSHA, and CMS requirementsSupport maintenance and restocking of automated dispensing machines, emergency boxes, and crash cartsControlled Substances & ComplianceMaintain accurate controlled substance records and ensure compliance with all federal, state, and departmental regulationsParticipate in audits and ensure proper storage and dispensing controlsAdditional ResponsibilitiesAssist in training pharmacy staff and studentsParticipate in quality improvement initiativesPerform duties in accordance with system-wide competencies and behaviorsPerform other duties as assignedCompletion of a high school diploma or equivalent is required, along with one of the following:Completion of an accredited Pharmacy Technician programMinimum of six (6) months of previous Pharmacy Technician experienceMinimum of six (6) months of experience as a Pharmacy Assistant within the UPMC Health SystemEnrollment in an undergraduate Pharmacy program with good academic standingLicensure, Certifications, and Clearances:Current registration with the Pennsylvania State Board of Pharmacy is required for all Pennsylvania locationsAct 34UPMC is an Equal Opportunity Employer/Disability/Veteran
