Step into a dynamic paraprofessional role supporting students in special education classrooms across a large district, serving 33 schools with a focus on elementary grades. This flexible, per diem opportunity allows you to choose your shifts—work 1 to 5 days per week, depending on your availability and district needs. Each day brings something new as you help cover contractor callouts, primarily assisting students with behavioral needs, implementing behavior intervention plans (BIPs), and providing 1:1 or classroom-based support. Some assignments may involve providing toileting assistance.
You will join a talented pool of professionals supporting students during the regular school year and through June’s ESY (extended school year). Schedules vary across school levels, with shifts at middle schools (7:00–2:30), high schools (7:30–3:00), and elementaries (8:30–4:00 or 9:00–4:30). No hours are guaranteed, and compensation is provided only for days worked, at a non-negotiable rate of $24.50 per hour.
Qualifications and Experience Desired:
- Hold an active substitute or paraprofessional certificate on DESE (must be active before starting; those in process are welcome to apply)
- Previous experience in school settings, particularly with students exhibiting behavioral challenges
- Comfort working with behavior plans and special education environments; experience with toileting support is a plus
- Must complete fingerprinting as required by the district (unique code required for each district in Missouri)
- Tech-savvy: willing to receive, accept, and manage assignments via the Spindle app
Responsibilities:
- Support classroom environments or provide 1:1 assistance to students with behavioral needs
- Follow and reinforce established behavior support plans
- Offer compassionate, consistent support to students and classroom staff
- Adapt to different school environments as shift assignments change
