On-Call IT Field Technician – Salt Lake City, UT Geeks on Site is hiring an independent contractor to provide on-site technical support to residential and small business customers across multiple U.S. cities. This is a flexible, on-call role with no guaranteed hours. About The Role Field IT technicians will troubleshoot and repair PCs and Macs, resolve network issues, and support printers and scanners. Technicians will work independently, dispatch to customer sites, and complete service calls efficiently and professionally. Key Responsibilities Diagnose and repair hardware and software issues on Windows and macOS systems. Resolve boot errors, operating system issues, and login problems. Set up or troubleshoot Wi-Fi and wired internet connections. Replace or upgrade hardware components such as HDD, RAM, and cooling fans. Configure or connect printers and scanners (Canon, HP, Brother, etc.). Address common printer error codes (e.g., ink absorber, paper feed, connectivity). Perform general maintenance on multifunction printers (MFPs). Reinstall operating systems using bootable USBs or recovery media. Install remote tools or shortcuts as requested. Communicate clearly with customers and provide basic post-service support. Document service visits and escalate complex issues as needed. Requirements 2+ years of field IT support experience, including computer and printer work. Familiarity with Canon, HP, and other common printer brands. Knowledge of error code troubleshooting (e.g., Canon code 1700, boot issues, driver conflicts). Experience with both Windows (10/11) and macOS troubleshooting. Must have personal tools (bootable USB, screwdriver set, etc.). Reliable vehicle and valid driver's license. Smartphone with camera and data for documentation and communication. Ability to work independently and maintain a professional demeanor. Compensation & Benefits $40–$45 per hour for on-site work.
