Job Description:

The Registered Nurse in the ICU is responsible for providing direct nursing care to critically ill patients. This role requires expertise in handling complex ICU patients across various medical conditions, including surgical, cardiac, neuro, and trauma cases. Nurses will work in a demanding environment with a focus on delivering high-quality patient care and will collaborate with the healthcare team to achieve optimal patient outcomes.

Responsibilities:

• Provide care to ICU patients using critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
• Administer medications and treatments as prescribed.
• Monitor and assess patient conditions, adjusting care plans as needed.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver comprehensive care.
• Document patient information accurately in the Epic charting system.

Requirements:

• BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and TNCC certifications; TNCC must be obtained prior to start.
• Completion of an approved nursing education program and current RN license from the South Dakota Board of Nursing.
• At least 2 years of ICU experience, excluding travel experience, is preferred.
• Experience with Epic, hemodynamic monitoring, ventilator management, and critical care medications.
• Comfortable working a 48-hour/week contract in a fast-paced ICU environment.

Unit Description
General Information
Beds: 39 - MICU, SICU, CICU, TICU - mixed unit
Minimal Experience:
2 years of ICU experience EXCLUDING travel experience is most preferred
If they have 1.5 years of ICU experience EXCLUDING travel, please have CRT send to management team for approval
Will you accept a first-time traveler? No. Minimum one prior travel assignment
Traveler must reside >100 miles outside of facility
Permanent staff must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
Patient Types:
Complex ICU patients ranging from surgical, medical, cardiac (preferred), neuro and trauma
Diagnoses include: ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, COVID, s/p cardiac cath, post-surgical, multiple system trauma - heavy trauma population
Cardiac experience is preferred (not required): CABG/TAVR - 24 to 48 hrs post op experience is preferred but not required for travelers
Will not take fresh open hearts unless they are experienced, and the facility felt comfortable with this - given to permanent staff
