Certified Pharmacy Technician.

FLSA Non-Exempt .
36-40 hours per week .
Eligible for full-time benefits package.

Position Summary:

Under the general direction and supervision of the Pharmacist and Pharmacy Director, this position will be an integral member of a patient’s care team at by assisting the pharmacist in delivering high-quality pharmaceutical care while working at the top of the technician license capability. Prepare medications under the direction of a pharmacist.  All activities are performed in accordance with established policies and procedures and are carried out in the highest achievable level of competence in a manner demonstrating concern and consideration.

Position Requirements:

  • Education: High School diploma or equivalent is required.
  • License: Certified Pharmacy Technician national certification and State of Montana Pharmacy. Technician License is preferred; Tech-in-Training license may be accepted; we may willing to train the right person if no certification is held.
  • Experience: Two years prior experience in a retail pharmacy setting serving a diverse patient population is preferred.
  • Other: Must be able to pass a criminal background check.

Essential Functions, Roles, and Responsibilities:

  • Assists the pharmacist in delivering high-quality pharmaceutical care, communicating information effectively.
  • Prepares prescriptions for dispensing by accurately entering all patient and prescription information into the pharmacy computer system.
  • Troubleshoots third-party rejections, communicating and resolving issues.
  • Accurately fills Rx paying careful attention to specific programs and regulations (ex 340B).
  • Prepares prescription for dispensing by accurately filling Rx vial with correct drug and proper labels.
  • Orders drug inventory and supplies with professional guidance from the Pharmacist, following established procedures for 340B and retail inventory.
  • Maintains and files records of dispensing and receiving (invoices).
  • Performs inventory control and management, including perpetual inventory counts and 340B audits as directed.
  • Removes or recommends removal of slow, unneeded, or outdated drugs from stock; prepares for return or disposal.
  • Provides excellent customer service on the phone or in person, always verifying patient identity.
  • Helps maintain orderly, clean environment in the department, including cleanliness of pharmacy stock and supplies.
  • Maintains an attitude and philosophy consistent with SWMTCHC standards.
  • Performs other duties as needed and directed.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Proven understanding of performing confidential work and HIPAA requirements.
  • Knowledge of insurance coverage especially as it relates to pharmacy.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to perform moderately difficult technical and clerical work.
  • Skill in handling cash and voucher control.
  • Ability to meet and deal tactfully with the public.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to ask questions and elicit required information.
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with staff and patients.
  • Skill in computer operations and type 40 wpm.
  • Ability to become proficient with pharmacy software and basic Microsoft Office programs.

Supervision : This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Immediate Supervisor :  Pharmacist and/or Pharmacy Director.

Physical Demands/Working Conditions:  

  • Work is performed primarily in a retail/community pharmacy and clinical healthcare environment. The position requires frequent standing and walking for extended periods throughout the workday. Employees regularly use hands and fingers for keyboarding, data entry, medication counting, packaging, labeling, operating pharmacy equipment, and handling medications and supplies.
  • The position requires frequent reaching, grasping, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and occasional twisting while stocking inventory, retrieving medications, operating adherence packaging equipment, and maintaining pharmacy workspaces. The employee must be able to occasionally lift, carry, push, or pull pharmacy supplies, medication totes, inventory shipments, or equipment weighing up to 30 pounds.
  • Visual acuity is required for reading prescriptions, medication labels, computer screens, inventory records, and pharmaceutical product information. The ability to distinguish colors is necessary for accurate medication identification and packaging. The employee must possess sufficient hearing and verbal communication skills to effectively interact with patients, pharmacists, healthcare providers, coworkers, and third-party payers in person and by telephone.
  • Work is generally performed in a climate-controlled environment with routine exposure to pharmacy-related materials and equipment. Exposure to hazardous drugs, cleaning solutions, pharmaceutical dust, and other substances may occur; appropriate safety procedures and personal protective equipment will be provided and required as applicable. This position is based in Dillon, MT.
